Job Description

Our client are a creative innovation and digital agency that brings together creative, strategy and technology. They work with fantastic clients globally and are expanding their Indonesian team, looking for a Technical Director.

This role is a rare hybrid leader; a Technical Director who bridges the gap between deep technical expertise and operational excellence. This is a dual-role position serving as both the operational owner and delivery lead for the technology hub. You'll partner closely with senior talent leadership, regional leads, and engineering teams to ensure the technical output meets the highest standards while driving commercial growth.

Core Responsibilities

Delivery Ownership

  • Own end-to-end technical delivery across client projects and internal initiatives
  • Establish and enforce technical quality standards, review processes, and engineering best practices
  • Partner with regional leads to ensure consistent delivery excellence across locations
  • Serve as final escalation point for technical challenges and architectural decisions
  • Ensure engineering teams are set up for success with clear goals, resources, and support

Operations Leadership

  • Design and optimise operational workflows, resourcing models, and delivery pipelines
  • Oversee business operations for the tech hub including capacity planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Partner with senior talent leadership on hiring strategy, contracts, and team structure
  • Build scalable operational frameworks that support growth without sacrificing quality
  • Manage vendor relationships, tooling stacks, and infrastructure investments

Strategic Growth

  • Contribute to commercial strategy and new business development efforts
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiency and margin improvement
  • Shape the long-term vision for the tech hub's capabilities and positioning
  • Represent technical leadership in client-facing and executive settings
  • Drive innovation in how we deliver digital experiences and solve client problems

What We're Looking For

Technical Credibility

  • 10+ years in a technical role, with 5+ years in technical leadership role
  • Deep understanding of modern web/mobile architecture, cloud infrastructure, and development practices
  • Ability to evaluate technical decisions, code quality, and engineering trade-offs
  • Experience scaling engineering teams and delivery operations in agency or product environments

Operational Excellence

  • Proven track record designing and running operational systems at scale
  • Strong grasp of business operations: P&L awareness, resource management, workflow design
  • Experience partnering with HR/talent functions on hiring, compensation, and org design
  • Comfortable with metrics, dashboards, and data-driven decision-making

Leadership & Influence

  • Natural ability to inspire and develop engineers while holding them accountable
  • Skilled at navigating complex stakeholder landscapes and building consensus
  • Executive presence with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Collaborative mindset; partnership over command-and-control

Commercial Acumen

  • Understanding of agency economics, project profitability, and client relationship dynamics
  • Ability to contribute to pitch strategy and technical scoping for new business
  • Growth-oriented mindset with experience expanding teams, capabilities, or revenue
