About the Role

Reporting to the Vice-President, International, the Director, RMIT Indonesia provides strategic leadership for RMIT's presence and operations in Indonesia. The role leads the growth and integration of RMIT's education, research, industry and government engagement in Indonesia, positioning RMIT as a trusted partner in workforce transformation, applied skills, and innovation. The Director leads and manages a high-performing local leadership team of 3-5 direct reports, ensuring alignment with RMIT's global strategy and operating model.

This is a highly visible senior leadership role responsible for strengthening RMIT's reputation, influence and commercial outcomes across Indonesia and the broader ASEAN region. The Director works closely with colleagues across RMIT Australia, Vietnam and global hubs to establish industry and innovation partnerships, scale programs, and advance RMIT's ambition to be a leading university of impact in the Asia Pacific.

The role also has responsibility for overseeing RMIT Indonesia's local operations, compliance, and budget, while representing the University at major regional missions, forums and delegations. Lived experience and strong cultural understanding of Indonesia are highly valued.

Key Priorities

  • Provide strategic leadership of RMIT's presence in Jakarta, positioning the University as a trusted partner to government, industry and higher education in workforce transformation and skills development.
  • Oversee RMIT Indonesia's operations, budget and compliance, ensuring alignment with RMIT's global strategy across education, research, student recruitment, industry and government engagement.
  • Strengthen partnerships across Indonesia and the ASEAN region, leveraging alumni and institutional networks to expand RMIT's impact and visibility.
  • Lead the design and delivery of education, leadership, pathways and capacity-building programs aligned to regional workforce and policy priorities.
  • Secure strategic government and industry funding to support long-term regional initiatives and commercial growth.
  • Position RMIT as a leader in applied skills and thought leadership across Digital Technologies, Creative Industries, Regenerative Futures and Health.
  • Represent RMIT at major missions, forums and delegations, hosting high-level government and industry visits and contributing to policy influence and diplomacy.

  • Champion RMIT's strategic plan, promoting success stories to enhance reputation, influence and international standing.


To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • A proven record of establishing and leading enterprises or initiatives in the Asia Pacific, with deep cultural insight and understanding of regional market dynamics.

  • Extensive experience in senior-level government, industry and diplomatic engagement, with a demonstrated ability to build and sustain high-impact partnerships.
  • Exceptional leadership capability, including experience leading high-performing, cross-cultural teams within complex regulatory environments.
  • Strong track record in developing and delivering education, skills and training programs aligned to workforce and strategic priorities.
  • Advanced knowledge of higher and vocational education in Indonesia and the Asia Pacific, with the ability to align programs to policy and market trends.
  • Demonstrated success in securing and managing strategic funding and partnership initiatives that deliver measurable growth and impact.
  • Outstanding communication, advocacy and policy-influence skills, with experience representing organisations at executive, governmental and multilateral forums.
  • Lived experience in Indonesia and Indonesian language capability will be highly regarded.
  • The flexibility to travel domestically and internationally as required.


Qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary qualification required (post graduate preferred).
