Role Overview
The Backend Engineer is responsible for managing the interchange of data between the server and the users. Their primary focus is the development of all server-side logic, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. They also integrate the front-end elements built by their co-workers into the application, so a basic understanding of front-end technologies is necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable backend systems that support web and application services.
- Implement and manage server-side logic, ensuring high performance, reliability, and responsiveness to frontend requests.
- Design, build, and maintain databases and data models, including schema design, optimization, and data integrity.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs to support frontend and third-party integrations.
- Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to ensure seamless integration between frontend and backend components.
- Ensure application security, data protection, and access control, following secure coding and compliance best practices.
- Optimize backend services for performance, scalability, and stability, including monitoring and tuning.
- Participate in code reviews, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve backend issues, including production incidents and performance bottlenecks.
- Work with DevOps and system administrators to support deployments, infrastructure, and service reliability.
- Collaborate with QA teams to support testing, bug fixing, and release readiness.
- Evaluate and integrate third-party services, tools, and APIs as needed.
- Contribute to backend architecture decisions, technical improvements, and long-term system design.
- Stay up to date with backend technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices, and proactively suggest enhancements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proficient knowledge of a backend programming language like NodeJS, Go, Java.
- Proficient understanding of databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB.
- Understanding of accessibility and security compliance.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges.
- Effective communication skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure the backend of applications run smoothly.
- Self-motivated with a desire to continually learn and improve skills.
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with server-side frameworks such as Express.js, NestJS, Echo, Springboot.
- Proficiency in working with databases, both relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL).
- Understanding of RESTful API design and development.
- Experience with server-side performance tuning.
- Knowledge of containerization and virtualization technologies.
- Familiarity with secure coding practices and authentication/authorization protocols
