Role Overview
Were looking for a skilled and proactive Senior IT Engineer with expertise in both Information Technology and CCTV systems. In this role, youll be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and performance of our remote Linux-based systems, network infrastructure, and visual data services.
You will be involved in the full IT operations lifecyclefrom design and deployment to monitoring and supportacross physical, virtual, and cloud environments. In addition, you&aposll lead the installation, configuration, and integration of IP-based CCTV systems, ensuring high availability, remote accessibility, and seamless interaction between shipboard and onshore infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
IT Infrastructure Management
- Design, implement, and maintain secure and scalable networks (LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi)
- Administer Linux servers, Windows PCs, file systems, and core services
- Configure and manage networking hardware: switches, routers, firewalls, WAPs, VPNs
- Monitor system and network performance to ensure uptime and reliability
- Apply patches, updates, and security configurations according to schedule
- Manage core services such as DNS, DHCP, VPNs, authentication services, and certificate authorities
CCTV System Management
- Install, configure, and maintain IP-based CCTV systems, NVRs, and VMS platforms (e.g., Hikvision, Lorex)
- Ensure video quality, system uptime, and data retention in line with compliance and operational needs
- Integrate CCTV systems with the broader IT infrastructure for centralized monitoring and remote access
System Integration
- Bridge CCTV and IT networks to ensure seamless functionality between shipboard and cloud platforms
- Automate backup and retention policies for both visual and operational data
Troubleshooting & Support
- Perform diagnostics and root cause analysis for hardware, software, and connectivity issues
- Use tools such as ping, traceroute, netstat, journalctl, Prometheus, Grafana, and Wireshark to monitor system health
- Provide remote and occasional on-site support for escalated technical issues
Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain up-to-date documentation: network diagrams, system configurations, procedures
- Create user guides and technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with the IT Operations team to share knowledge and ensure service continuity
Skills and Qualifications
Professional Experience
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in Cisco networking and Linux system administration
- Proven knowledge of LAN/WAN, network protocols, routing, and network security
- Experience with AWS, virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware), Kubernetes, and Bash scripting
- Comfortable working independently in remote environments, using modern troubleshooting and collaboration tools
Technical Skills
- Networking: TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, Ethernet, Wi-Fi; configuration of switches, routers, firewalls
- Linux Systems: Server administration, SSH, iptables/firewalls, cron jobs, performance tuning
- Windows Support: Configuration and basic troubleshooting of PCs in hybrid environments
- CCTV Systems: Installation and management of IP cameras, NVRs, and VMS platforms (e.g., Hikvision, Lorex)
- Monitoring & Diagnostics: Tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, PagerDuty, Wireshark, ping, netstat, traceroute, journalctl, top
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills for resolving complex system, network, and hardware issues
- Proactive and resourceful, with the ability to manage tasks independently
Communication Skills
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication
- Able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a distributed setup
Certifications
Required:
- CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
Nice to Have:
- CCNP, LFCS, or RHCSA
- Certified CCTV system installer or equivalent training
