The Commercial Finance Analyst role is a vital support partner to the Commercial Manager and Business Leaders, providing the financial analysis and project accounting necessary to drive business decisions.
This role is responsible for monitoring commercial performance, managing the finances of specific projects, and delivering accurate reporting and forecasting.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial reports, providing clear explanations of actual results versus budget and forecast.
- Analyze financial performance and key business drivers to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Own the month-end close process for the business unit, ensuring accuracy by collaborating with project, accounting and operation teams.
- Planning & Forecasting
- Support the monthly and quarterly forecasting process for the income statement.
- Support the annual budget cycle, coordinating input and preparing financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Support financial models and assumptions based on current business conditions.
- Commercial Support & Analysis
- Support the Commercial Manager in preparing monthly management reports, forecasts, and the annual budget.
- Analyze commercial performance (e.g., profitability, sales trends, key drivers) and provide insights into targets.
- Assist in preparing presentation materials for business leadership meetings.
- Project Accounting & Financial Management
- Own the end-to-end financial administration for assigned projects, from set up to final close.
- Track project costs, revenues, and profitability, ensuring accurate job costing.
- Monitor customer invoices in a timely manner, following contract terms.
- Support the monthly financial close process by reconciling project accounts and ensuring revenue and costs are accurately recognized.
- Help maintain and update financial models for project forecasting and profitability analysis.
- Generate regular project status reports, including cost-to-complete and estimate-at-completion analyses.
- Business Partnership & Strategy
- Serve as a finance expert for the business unit, providing data-driven analysis to support strategic decisions.
- Prepare presentation materials for business leadership meetings.
- Evaluate operational metrics to identify areas for improvement and value creation.
- Process Improvement & Governance
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.
- Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing accurate schedules and documentation.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Build effective relationships across the business to gather information and drive consensus.
- Communicate complex financial information in a clear and understandable way to non-financial stakeholders.
Qualification And/or Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in financial analysis, FP&A, or a similar commercial finance role.
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, charts).
- Hands-on experience with an ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
Having The Following Background Would Be An Advantage
- MBA or Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Professional certification (CA, CPA, CMA, etc.).
- Experience with financial planning software and processes.
- Background in Construction, Engineering, or Manufacturing industries.
