Manc Sport is a sports news provider focusing on the Greater Manchester Region and beyond. We launched in July 2024 and since then we have won a major start-up award and been short-listed in several others including being highly commended in one prestigious category.
Role Description
This is a volunteer remote role for a Sports Writer at Manc Sport. The Sports Writer will be responsible for sports writing, specifically football, as well as general writing, communication, and journalism tasks for our sight in the Greater Manchester region.

Manc Sport is a dedicated sports media start up platform covering all sports in Greater Manchester and beyond. Our long-term mission is to revolutionise the landscape of digital sports media, providing a one-stop destination that transcends the traditional and aims to showcase multiple global sports continuously. This includes in-depth storytelling, emotive features, and documenting the journeys of sportspeople, teams, and organizations, with a particular emphasis on women's sports and disabled sports.
The platform communicates a plethora of sports ranging from grassroots to professional levels so that underrepresented sports can be brought into the spotlight. We are a sports publication that places an emphasis on providing the locals of Manchester with a platform to gain the recognition they deserve. We have been recently short-listed for a couple of national awards.
Working with the help of volunteers, Manc Sport aims to create symbiotic relationships with sports clubs, leagues, and organizations to enhance coverage and representation. We have dedicated focuses on women's sports, disability sport and sustainability.
We are looking for qualified Content Writers to join our diverse and skilled team. Our ideal candidate is an experienced professional with demonstrable creative writing. As a content writer/journalist, you will ideally perform well under deadlines and be detail-oriented. This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground level of a growing company with big ambitions.
Responsibilities:
Writing quality, error-free and timely articles on the website in UK English
Strategising content around trends pertaining to the sport.
Working with the team to build engaging content, improve quality, and increase viewership over time.
Prior knowledge & enthusiasm for whichever sport they possess expertise in.
Ability to write easy-to-understand articles, initially five a week
Ability to work independently with good time management skills
Create engaging, shareable content that resonates with sports fans worldwide.
Stay on top of trends to deliver quality posts and communicating.

Work from home, with an initial focus on football and having the opportunity to move into other areas/sports
Responsibilities
Research and come up with story ideas to pitch editorial on sports, especially those under-represented.
Pitch the editor in chief your idea/s, listen to feedback, research, craft and write the story.
Work on designated stories.
Being a reliable person is highly important for this role.
Follow the IPSO editors code when conducting your duties, guidance will be provided.
Build rapport with clubs and individuals in the non-league community, act professional at all times.
Build your portfolio and create a good quality product with the assistance of the wider team.
Start off writing 3-5 stories a week, there are no passengers in this endeavour.
Writers should be wanting to write.
Opportunities
The ultimate aim is to get to a point where the site is monetised, we have a plan for that.
We will help you grow as a writer and give you career guidance, you will be working with industry professionals including a former sports editor of a newspaper.
You would be added to a Whatsapp group where you would receive daily correspondence including industry news, tips and guidance.
You will regularly get constructive feedback on your writing.
There will be opportunities and you will be on the ground level of what we think will be an exciting journey.
