Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Technical Sales Engineer – Structural Steel role based in Tangerang. The primary focus of this role is to develop structural steel business by engaging with structural consultants, contractors, fabricators, developers, and project owners from the design and specification stage through tender, order award, supply, and project execution.
The Technical Sales Engineer will combine strong technical knowledge of structural steel products with commercial and business development capabilities. The role involves reviewing structural drawings, BOQ/MTO, steel specifications, and project requirements; recommending suitable steel sections and grades; supporting value engineering and technical alternatives; preparing technical-commercial proposals; and developing long-term customer and project relationships.
The position requires strong coordination with consultants, contractors, fabricators, mills, suppliers, and internal technical and commercial teams to ensure technically compliant solutions, successful project execution, and profitable sales growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new structural steel business opportunities within construction, infrastructure, industrial, and related project sectors.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with structural consultants, architects, main contractors, steel fabricators, developers, project owners, and key customers.
- Engage with customers and consultants from the design and specification stage to influence product selection and project requirements.
- Review structural drawings, steel schedules, BOQ/MTO, tender documents, and technical specifications to identify product and material requirements.
- Recommend suitable structural steel sections, dimensions, grades, and products based on project requirements, availability, applicable standards, and technical compliance.
- Develop technically acceptable alternative sections or steel grades and support value engineering proposals in coordination with customers and internal technical teams.
- Prepare technical comparisons, compliance statements, material submittals, technical clarifications, deviations, and product documentation where required.
- Provide technical support regarding section properties, product availability, mill capabilities, material certification, fabrication requirements, and applicable standards.
- Coordinate with mills, suppliers, fabricators, and internal technical teams to confirm manufacturing feasibility, product availability, and technical compliance.
- Conduct customer visits, technical presentations, product briefings, project discussions, and specification meetings.
- Support product specification, material approval, and vendor/product registration processes.
- Prepare technical-commercial proposals, quotations, and tender submissions with clear specifications, scope, exclusions, lead times, and commercial assumptions.
- Participate in tender clarification, technical meetings, commercial negotiations, and follow-up activities through order award.
- Coordinate technical handover and support project execution, including resolving material, specification, or product-related issues.
- Monitor project pipelines, upcoming tenders, market opportunities, competitor activities, and structural steel market developments.
- Achieve sales targets, order intake, tonnage, gross margin, and other assigned commercial KPIs.
- Ensure sales activities comply with approved pricing, commercial, credit, and collection terms.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (S1) in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering is preferred.
- Mechanical Engineering or Materials/Metallurgical Engineering graduates may be considered with strong structural steel experience.
- Diploma (D3) candidates may be considered if supported by substantial structural steel technical and commercial experience.
- Minimum 3–7 years of relevant experience in structural steel, steel mills, steel stockholding/distribution, fabrication, construction, engineering consultancy, infrastructure, or technical sales.
- Hands-on experience reviewing structural drawings, BOQ/MTO, steel schedules, specifications, and customer technical requirements is strongly preferred.
- Experience dealing with structural consultants, steel fabricators, contractors, developers, or project owners is highly advantageous.
- Candidates with experience in steel mills, structural steel suppliers, fabricators, or engineering solution companies are particularly relevant.
Product & Application Knowledge
Experience or knowledge of the following structural steel products is highly preferred:
- Universal Beams (UB), Universal Columns (UC), H-Beams, and I-Beams.
- Jumbo/Heavy Sections and Parallel Flange Channels (PFC).
- Angles, Plates, and Hollow Structural Sections.
- King Posts, Crane Rails, Sheet Piles, and foundation steel.
- Fabricated structural members and welded/built-up sections.
- Structural steel grades such as S275, S355, S420, S430, S460, and equivalent ASTM/JIS grades.
- Higher-strength and project-specific structural steel grades according to applicable standards and mill capabilities.
