Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Technical Sales Engineer, Energy Industry role based in Tangerang.

The primary focus of this role is to develop and convert business opportunities within the Energy industry by combining strong engineering knowledge with commercial execution. The Technical Sales Engineer will work closely with project owners, EPC contractors, engineering consultants, fabricators, and procurement teams from the early feasibility and FEED stages through technical specification, tender, order award, and project execution.

The role is responsible for understanding customer engineering requirements, evaluating technical specifications and project documentation, recommending fit-for-purpose steel products and solutions, supporting technical compliance and value engineering, and converting technical solutions into commercially viable business opportunities.

The position requires strong coordination with mills, suppliers, engineering, supply chain, operations, and project teams to ensure product capability, technical compliance, successful order fulfillment, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Identify and develop new business opportunities within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery, LNG, Power Generation, Renewable Energy, Offshore/Marine, and related industrial sectors.
  2. Build and maintain strong relationships with project owners, EPC contractors, engineering consultants, fabricators, procurement organizations, and key industrial customers.
  3. Engage customers and stakeholders during early engineering, feasibility, FEED, and specification stages to develop project opportunities.
  4. Monitor upcoming projects, tenders, FEED activities, and market developments to establish and maintain a strong project pipeline.
  5. Review RFQs, engineering drawings, datasheets, technical specifications, MTO/BOQ, material requisitions, and other project documentation to determine technical and commercial requirements.
  6. Evaluate material grades, dimensions, applicable standards, inspection requirements, fabrication requirements, and delivery constraints before proposing suitable solutions.
  7. Recommend appropriate steel sections, plates, foundation products, rails, and fabricated steel solutions based on project requirements and technical compliance.
  8. Develop technically acceptable alternative products, grades, or sections where appropriate and support value-engineering initiatives.
  9. Prepare technical compliance statements, material/product comparisons, technical clarifications, deviations, and supporting documentation for customer and consultant approval.
  10. Coordinate with mills, suppliers, and internal technical teams to verify product capability, manufacturing feasibility, certification, availability, and compliance.
  11. Conduct technical presentations, product briefings, customer visits, engineering discussions, and project meetings.
  12. Support vendor registration, technical prequalification, and product approval processes with project owners, EPC contractors, and consultants.
  13. Prepare technical-commercial proposals and quotations with clear scope, specifications, exclusions, delivery requirements, lead times, and commercial assumptions.
  14. Participate in tender clarification, technical meetings, and commercial negotiations through order award.
  15. Coordinate technical handover with Supply Chain, Operations, and Project teams and support the resolution of technical issues during project execution.
  16. Monitor competitor activities, market trends, customer requirements, and developments within the Energy industry.
  17. Maintain project pipeline, sales forecasts, technical opportunity status, customer engagement records, and market intelligence.
  18. Achieve sales revenue, order intake, gross margin, and other assigned commercial KPIs.
  19. Support collection activities and ensure transactions comply with approved commercial and credit terms.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree (S1) in Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Materials/Metallurgical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  2. Mechanical, Civil/Structural, or Materials Engineering backgrounds are preferred for candidates focused on steel products and engineering solutions.
  3. Diploma holders may be considered if supported by substantial relevant Energy/EPC technical sales experience.
  4. Minimum 3–7 years of relevant experience in Energy, Oil & Gas, EPC, engineering products, industrial steel, steel manufacturing/distribution, or technical project sales.
  5. Practical experience with project specifications, material requisitions, tendering, technical documentation, and engineering/customer interfaces is strongly preferred.
  6. Experience working with EPC contractors, project owners, engineering consultants, fabricators, or procurement organizations is highly advantageous.
  7. Existing relationships with EPC contractors, project owners, engineering consultants, or Energy-sector customers will be an advantage.

Technical competencies & credentials

  1. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, datasheets, MTO/BOQ, material requisitions and technical specifications.
  2. Working knowledge of steel grades, mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, material certification and traceability.
  3. Familiarity with ASTM, API, ASME, AWS, EN, ISO and/or JIS standards relevant to project requirements.
  4. Knowledge of EN 10204 3.1/3.2 certification, inspection and testing requirements is advantageous.
  5. Understanding of fabrication processes including cutting, drilling, welding, machining, coating and surface preparation.
  6. Ability to prepare technical compliance, deviation and comparison documents and communicate technical issues clearly to customers.
  7. Understanding of EPC/FEED project stages, vendor qualification and technical approval processes.
  8. Ability to identify technically compliant alternatives and value-engineering opportunities without compromising project requirements.
