Tax Senior Specialist
Tax Senior Specialist role offers supports the day to day activities of tax operations in specified areas (i.e. Federal taxation of life, Nonlife, Investments, REIT, Audit, and State income/premium taxes). This role may require involvement with strategic initiatives and complex technical issues for the assigned area and may require involvement with tax accounting and reporting on one or more of the following bases of accounting: IFRS, USGAAP, NAIC, Modified NAIC, and Bermuda Statutory bases. This role may be limited to a specialized area of expertise. In addition, this role supports the completion and preparation of assigned federal and state tax compliance requirements and may assist managers with IRS and / or state tax inquiries.
Position Responsibilities:
. Provisions:
- Prepares and Analyzes assigned calculations, tax provisions for specified assignments
- May address related disclosures on relevant bases of accounting
- Prepares and reviews internal management reporting, and external disclosures
- Assist in analyzing changes in accounting principles or tax law
. Federal and State/Provincial Tax Returns:
- Preparation of federal and state/provincial assigned returns, supporting documentation, and disclosures
- Assists with technical review of transactions
- Assists with tax law change analysis
. State/provincial Premium Returns, related accruals, and state/provincial inquiries and audits as assigned
. Sales and Use Tax Returns as assigned Management & Employee Development:
- Responsible for performance-management related activities for assigned area such as goal setting, monitoring goal completion, on-going coaching, performance appraisals, and discussions
. Goal setting & delivering results:
- Is accountable for delivering results
. Participates in ongoing professional education
. Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
. Master's degree in Tax or commensurate education / experience desired
. C.P.A. (Certified Public Accountant) or similar designation
. Typically, 3+ years of experience with at least 3+ years dealing with corporate tax and/or relevant issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
. Basic knowledge of financial accounting and reporting, computation of Federal taxable income and Federal tax, industry specific tax rules, taxation of transactions, state, provincial, local & premium taxation concepts and procedures, understanding of technology that supports all tax functions, partnership
. Solid technology skills with ability to analyze and improve processes
.Strong organizational skills
. Strong communication skills
. Proficient in managing workflow and deadlines
. Solid research skills Decision Authorities:
. Empowered to prepare and analyze tax filings, provisions and various other tax calculations and accountable for delivering accurate and timely results
. Empowered to prepare and record approved journal entries
. Supports requests from internal and external auditors with manager approval
