SMEC is currently supporting the major metro rail infrastructure project in Southeast Asia and invites Expressions of Interest from experienced professionals for the role of SHES Expert.

Role Overview:

The SHES Expert will provide specialist oversight for Safety, Health, Environmental, and Social (SHES) management during the design review and construction supervision stages of the project. The role will ensure that project activities comply with international safety standards, environmental requirements, and social safeguards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the implementation of Safety, Health, Environmental, and Social management frameworks for the project.
• Review contractor SHES plans and ensure compliance with project specifications and international standards.
• Monitor safety performance across construction sites, including underground, elevated, and depot facilities.
• Conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
• Ensure environmental mitigation measures are implemented and monitored.
• Support reporting and compliance with client, regulatory, and international funding agency requirements.
• Guide project teams on safety and environmental best practices.

Requirements:

• Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related discipline.
• Typically 15+ years of experience in SHES management for major infrastructure projects.
• Experience working on railway, metro, or large transport infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of international health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Experience supporting construction supervision or engineering consultancy projects.
• Professional certifications in health and safety management will be an advantage.
