We Are Looking For

As the Subject Matter Expert - Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will provide technical domain expertise across the design, construction, testing, and commissioning phases of data center projects. The SME ensures that all mechanical systems including cooling, HVAC, chilled water, and related infrastructure are designed, built, and delivered in accordance with company standards, local regulations, and operational reliability requirements.

This role serves as a technical authority within the Project/Engineering team, supporting multiple sites or projects, reviewing designs, providing engineering governance, and driving standardization and best practices across the country.

To succeed in this role, you should have extensive knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering, with excellent communication and organizational skills.

Job Responsibilities

a) Project Execution Support

  • Provide subject matter guidance during project planning, construction, and commissioning
  • Review shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements for mechanical works
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure installation quality, workmanship, and adherence to design intent
  • Support integration of mechanical systems with electrical, controls (BMS), and fire systems
  • Collaborate with contractors and vendors to resolve technical issues and design discrepancies

b) Commissioning and Handover

  • Review and approve commissioning plans, procedures, and test scripts for mechanical systems
  • Witness testing and commissioning activities to ensure system reliability and performance validation
  • Support the transition from project completion to operations, ensuring documentation and as-built drawings are complete and accurate

c) Continuous Improvement and Standardization

  • Identify lessons learned and improvement areas from past projects and incorporate them into new designs
  • Drive innovation in mechanical system efficiency, sustainability, and maintainability
  • Benchmark data center performance and implement optimization strategies for cooling and energy use

d) Stakeholder Coordination

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders (Operations, Design, Procurement, HSE, QA/QC) to ensure project alignment
  • Provide technical input during procurement, tender evaluation, and vendor qualification processes
  • Support due diligence and feasibility studies for new data center sites or expansions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 812 years of relevant experience in data center, mission-critical, or large industrial building projects
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems for data centers: chilled water systems, direct expansion systems, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, and controls
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, TIA-942, NFPA, and local codes
  • Experience in design review, construction supervision, and commissioning of mechanical systems
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, and system calculations
  • Strong project coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Prior experience in managing data centre projects and handover to stakeholder within schedule
  • Prior experience/ engaged for carrying out IST with hyperscale customers in data centre projects
  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, BIM and MS Project
