Job Description

Job Description

  • Serve as a DevOps Mentor for the Apple Developer Academy DevOps Institute, helping students learn how to ship real products safely and reliably.
  • Co-design, implement, and continuously improve the DevOps curriculum: CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, cloud platforms, observability, security, and release engineering.
  • Build and maintain reference CI/CD pipelines and infrastructures that students can adapt for their projects.
  • Run hands-on labs, workshops, and challenge-based learning sessions that simulate real production environments (deployments, rollbacks, incident drills, cost optimisation, etc.).
  • Mentor squads of Academy learners, guiding them on architecture, deployment patterns, monitoring, and reliability.
  • Promote DevOps culture within the Academy: collaboration between developers, designers, QA, and product; champion best practices and modern tooling.
  • Provide technical guidance and code reviews, helping students build clean pipelines, secure infrastructure, and high-quality automation.
  • Establish and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting standards for Academy environments to ensure reliability and a strong learning experience.
  • Work closely with SQE, Apple Developer Academy staff, and other mentors to align content, projects, and assessments with program goals.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineer in production environments.
  • Proven hands-on expertise in designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins).
  • Advanced proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of at least one major cloud provider (AWS, etc), including networking, security, and cost-aware architecture.
  • Solid understanding of Linux systems, containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and observability tools.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers, leading teams, or running technical trainings/bootcamps.
  • Ability to explain complex topics in a clear, simple, and structured way to early-career engineers and students.
  • Passion for teaching, coaching, and growing talent.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills; comfortable working with both industry and academic partners.
  • Willingness to be on-site at BSD for classes, labs, and student mentoring.
