Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Software Engineer with AI expertise to join our expanding technology team. You will play a critical role in designing, architecting, and building our greenfield AI SaaS platform, including production-grade real-time AI assistants for healthcare applications. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who thrives in complex system environments, enjoys solving technical challenges from first principles, and is passionate about building scalable, reliable cloud-native applications.

Responsibilities

As the Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will collaborate closely with our Solution Architect and development team to deliver robust, scalable, and secure cloud-based systems. Your responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing backend systems from scratch using TypeScript and Python
• Building and optimizing async/concurrent systems for real-time AI interactions
• Integrating LLMs using function calling, prompt engineering, and streaming APIs (OpenAI/Anthropic)
• Designing, implementing, and maintaining REST and WebSocket APIs
• Working with cloud services from AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Applying strong system design principles to improve reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency
• Collaborating in an agile environment with cross-functional teams
• Writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code with best engineering practices
• Troubleshooting and resolving backend, infrastructure, and data-flow issues
• Providing technical guidance and contributing to architectural decisions
• Documenting technical concepts and communicating effectively with the broader team
• Ensuring system security, observability, and high availability across environments

Qualifications & Experience Requirements

We are seeking an experienced engineer with deep backend expertise and hands-on AI integration skills.

Primary Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional backend development
• Proven ability to design and build systems from scratch
• Strong development experience in TypeScript (mandatory) and Python (preferred)
• Production experience with async/concurrent systems
• Hands-on experience integrating with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) including streaming responses and function calling
• Strong knowledge of API design and integration (REST/WebSocket)
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
• System design capabilities focused on latency optimization, reliability, scalability, and cost management
• Strong written English communication skills, especially for documenting technical work
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and collaborative development workflows

Secondary Requirements (Nice to Have)

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or related field
• Portfolio of relevant projects or open-source contributions
• Experience working with AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code)
• Experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code)
• Experience with AWS AI services
• Experience working with healthcare systems or regulated industries
