Senior Backend Engineer (Distributed Systems)

We are seeking a high-caliber Senior Backend Engineer to build the core nervous system of our industrial data mesh, which serves as the resilient, high-availability foundation for the mesh403 platform. You will lead the development and operationalization of the Bridge-to-Backbone pattern, ensuring a seamless and reliable data flow from high-latency, push-based edge environments to high-throughput, pull-based cloud backbones. This role is essential for realizing our Federated Hybrid Constellation by designing the foundational ingestion pipelines and Golden Path templates that establish secure, product-to-product communication. Your architectural decisions will be critical for maintaining a common data lineage by tracking events across domains and ensuring Agentic AI is empowered with semantically consistent data. Furthermore, you will be instrumental in enforcing a strict Zero Trust security model across all mesh nodes and mitigating the Lethal Trifecta of systemic AI risksuntrusted data, unverified identities, and agent exfiltration.

Key Responsibilities

• Bridge-to-Backbone Development: Architect and lead the full lifecycle development of the Bridge-to-Backbone ingestion pipelines that resolve the impedance mismatch between chaotic edge data and governed cloud storage.
• Streaming & Distributed State Management: Implement and manage the Kafka Sidecar Bus pattern to manage distributed state and Golden Record events, designing for high-availability without creating brittle dependencies on core platforms.
• Application Runtime & Control Flow: Utilize Dapr for advanced business logic control flows and configure Envoy proxies to intercept and route network traffic, driving asynchronous and event-driven workflows.
• Specialized Ingestion Services: Develop robust, scalable ingestion services to connect data from complex, high-velocity edge environments to the Data Products in the constellation.
• Onboarding & Template Design (Golden Path): Design and build Golden Path templates (e.g., Dual-Sidecar, Governance-as-Code) to accelerate the secure and compliant onboarding of Sovereign Data Products into the mesh403 network.
• AI Agent Data Enablement: Design and implement the data ingestion and transformation pipelines necessary to empower Agentic AI with semantically consistent, high-fidelity data.

• Programming Mastery: Proficient in Python (FastAPI) for modular backend services, with a strong preference for practical experience in low-level languages (C++/Go) for performance-critical components.
• Streaming & Messaging Protocols: Expert-level knowledge of MQTT (EMQX, HiveMQ) for industrial edge connectivity and Apache Kafka or Redpanda for systemic event distribution and high-availability streaming.
• Service Mesh & Distributed Runtime: Hands-on expertise with Envoy proxies and Dapr sidecars for secure service-to-service communication, including deep knowledge of identity and distributed tracing.
• Data Storage & AI Backend: Mastery of relational and specialized databases, including PostgreSQL and extensions like TimescaleDB (time-series) and pgvector (AI embeddings).
• AI Orchestration: Proven experience with AI orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph and RAG Flow to coordinate multi-actor AI agent workflows.
• Template & Governance-as-Code: Deep experience with container orchestration and deployment tooling (Helm, Kustomize, Terraform, Docker Compose) to build standardized, re-usable onboarding templates.

Preferred/Additional Experience

A strong candidate should also have demonstrable exposure to the following areas:

• Orchestration & Networking: Advanced Kubernetes networking, specifically focusing on Service Mesh (Istio) and Ingress Controllers for distributed traffic management.

Security Mastery: Practical experience with Zero Trust networking, certificate management (Vault/cert-manager), and encrypted data-in-transit.
