We are looking for a REST API Tester to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of backend services through thorough API testing.
In this role, you will focus on validating RESTful APIs that power business-critical systems, including integrations between frontend applications, backend services, and third-party partners. You will work closely with developers and product teams to identify issues early, improve test coverage, and ensure stable releases.
Key Responsibilities
API Testing & Validation
- Design, develop, and execute test cases for REST APIs
- Validate API functionality, response structure, data integrity, and error handling
- Perform positive, negative, and edge-case testing
Test Design & Execution
- Analyze requirements and translate them into detailed test scenarios and test cases
- Ensure comprehensive test coverage across endpoints and integrations
- Execute manual and/or automated tests as applicable
Integration Testing
- Test API interactions between:
- frontend and backend systems
- internal services
- third-party integrations
- Validate data flow and consistency across systems
Defect Management
- Identify, document, and track bugs using standard tools
- Work closely with developers to reproduce, debug, and validate fixes
- Ensure issues are resolved before release
Quality Assurance Collaboration
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders
- Participate in requirement discussions to ensure testability and clarity
- Contribute to improving QA processes and best practices
KPIs
- Accuracy and completeness of API test coverage
- Number and severity of defects identified before production
- Reduction of API-related issues in production
- Efficiency in test execution and defect turnaround time
- Quality and clarity of test documentation
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in testing REST APIs
- Strong understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, and API architecture
- Hands-on experience with tools such as:
- Postman / Insomnia
- Swagger / OpenAPI
- Ability to create and execute structured test cases and scenarios
- Experience with API response validation (JSON/XML)
- Familiarity with bug tracking tools (e.g., Jira, similar)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with API test automation (e.g., REST Assured, Newman, or similar)
- Basic knowledge of programming/scripting (JavaScript, Python, or similar)
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with performance or load testing tools
- Experience in testing integrated or distributed systems
