Manager / HOD – Fuel Handling (Coal + Biomass)

Job Purpose

To ensure safe, reliable, and efficient handling of coal and biomass to meet continuous boiler demand with minimum losses and downtime.

Key Responsibilities

A. Operations Management

Ensure 24×7 uninterrupted fuel supply to boiler, Monitor :

1) Coal & biomass unloading

2) Conveyor system performance

3) Crusher / screen operation

4) Maintain zero production loss due to fuel less supply

5) Optimize blending of coal & biomass

B. Planning & Coordination

Daily coordination with: Boiler operations team, Fuel procurement (SPD & PUD), Logistic Department, Quality control, Material management, Yard management (FIFO practice), Plan unloading schedules (truck / barge) developed monthly coal simulation

C. Maintenance Coordination

Ensure preventive & predictive maintenance (PDM), Reduce breakdowns and downtime, Coordinate with MMP, MEP & MIP teams, Track equipment health: Conveyors, Stacker-reclaimer, Crushers, Screen, Biomass Silo, HE, Receiving hopper Fire protection system & Grizzly Mill

D. Safety & Compliance

Implement strong fire prevention systems, Ensure compliance with: Safety standards, Environmental norms (dust, spillage control), & Conduct safety audits

E. Team Management

Lead team of: Engineers, Supervisors, Operators & contract manpower, Shift manpower planning & training & Performance evaluation of team

F. Performance Monitoring (KPI) :

Production loss, System availability (%), Fuel loss (%), Unloading rate, Breakdown hours, Housekeeping & safety score

G. Cost Control & Optimization

Reduce: Fuel handling losses, Power consumption of CHP, Improve system efficiency, Vendor & contractor cost control

H. Reporting

Daily / weekly MIS reporting, Incident & breakdown reports, Management presentations

Qualification

B.Tech / BE in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Experience

• 10–15 years total experience
• Minimum 5 years in handling CHP / fuel handling system
• Dust suppression systems
• Basic PLC / SCADA knowledge
• Problem-solving mindset
• Maintaining continuous boiler feeding
• Managing large workforce
• Coal yard Management
• Fuel analysis and quality control
