At Rize, we are building the digital infrastructure powering the future of sustainable rice cultivation across Southeast Asia.
Rice farming supports the livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers, yet it is also one of the world's largest contributors to methane emissions, accounting for nearly 12% of global methane emissions and close to 30% across Southeast Asia. The transition toward modern, measurable, and lower-emission farming is no longer optional. It is inevitable.

Founded through a joint venture between Temasek, 100x100 (Previously Wavemaker Impact), Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and GenZero, Rize combines climate technology, agricultural intelligence, and last-mile operational infrastructure to help make rice cultivation more productive, resilient, and sustainable. As we scale across Indonesia - unlocking climate and green financing facilities, building partner and supplier networks, and operating at the last mile with farmers - the legal function sits at the centre of how we grow safely.

This is an in-house seat with real impact. You will work across commercial contracting, corporate and regulatory matters, financing documentation, and on-ground operational risk management . You will report directly to the Head of Legal, with direct exposure to leadership, investors, and external counsels.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial Contracting
- Structure, draft, review, and negotiate the full range of commercial agreements — supplier and agri-input contracts, service agreements, partnership contracts, and MOUs and NDAs
- Build and maintain contract templates and playbooks so the business can move quickly without repeat legal review on standard terms
- Manage the contract lifecycle end to end: negotiation, execution, filing, and renewal tracking
Corporate & Regulatory Compliance
- Support corporate secretarial work and corporate governance matters for the Indonesian business
- Track and analyse Indonesia's regulations relevant to agriculture, agri-input distribution, financing, data protection, carbon credit and sustainability, and translate them into practical guidance for the business
- Manage licensing and permitting requirements
- Support compliance programmes, including anti-bribery, data protection, and ESG-linked obligations flowing from our investors and financing partners
Financing & Transactions
- Support financing and funding transactions— whether through equity investment or debt/financing facilities
Operational & Field Risk
- Advise on mitigating risks associated with operating structure
- Work with Operations, Finance, and Operations Excellence teams to identify and mitigate legal risks in business operations
Business Partnering
- Act as first point of contact for commercial teams on day-to-day legal questions, with clear, practical answers rather than caveats
- Escalate what genuinely needs the Head of Legal's attention, and close out the rest independently
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in law (S.H.) from an Indonesian university, with a strong academic record
- Over 4 years of post-qualification experience, comprising at least 2 years at a law firm with a strong transactional practice, plus in-house experience at a company
- Demonstrated managerial-level standing: associate level or above in a law firm setting, or junior/assistant manager or above in a company
- A clear, upward career trajectory with increasing scope and responsibility
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills across commercial agreements
- Fluent written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia and English — you will draft in both and negotiate in both
Essential Skills & Characteristics
Must have:
- Ability to harness the law to deliver commercial impacts - you tell the business how to get to its objectives, not only what it can and cannot do
- Structuring ability
- High ownership and ability to operate independently without constant supervision
- Comfort with ambiguity and incomplete information; we are scaling and with it continuously iterating. Precedents often do not exist
- Willingness to go to the field. Understanding how paddy farming operations actually work will make you materially better at this job
- Clear, direct communication with non-lawyers
Nice to have:
- Master's degree in law, business, or economics
- Experience in agribusiness, FMCG, logistics, trade, or technology
- Admission to the Indonesian Bar Association (PERADI)
- Exposure to climate or green financing, impact capital, or ESG-linked funding structures
- Experience in a high-growth startup environment
