Overview

An established global industrial organisation is seeking a Legal Counsel to act as the primary legal advisor for its local operations.

This is a newly created, standalone role where you will partner closely with site leadership, regional headquarters, and external advisors to manage legal risk, strengthen governance standards, and support operational growth within a regulated production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main legal point of contact for the local business unit.
  • Provide advisory support on employment and labour-related matters, including employee relations, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance.
  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and operational agreements.
  • Advise management on corporate governance matters and ensure adherence to statutory and internal compliance requirements.
  • Support regulatory and environmental compliance obligations relevant to industrial operations.
  • Work closely with HR on workplace investigations, grievances and disciplinary processes.
  • Oversee compliance initiatives, audits and internal investigations where required.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel for specialised legal matters.
  • Track legislative developments and advise leadership on risk implications.
  • Contribute to the development and scaling of the local legal function as the business grows.

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with an active practising certificate in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience, ideally with exposure to in-house advisory work.
  • Experience supporting operational or asset-heavy businesses (e.g. industrial, engineering, infrastructure, production or similar environments) will be advantageous.
  • Strong grounding in corporate, commercial and employment law.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks within a structured operating environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in conversational Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia required for regional stakeholder engagement. (must have)
  • Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment and ability to operate independently.

Opportunity

  • First legal hire supporting a significant operational footprint.
  • High-visibility role with direct interaction with business leadership.
  • Opportunity to shape legal governance frameworks and build capability from the ground up.
  • Collaborative, cross-border environment with regional exposure.
