Overview
An established global industrial organisation is seeking a Legal Counsel to act as the primary legal advisor for its local operations.
This is a newly created, standalone role where you will partner closely with site leadership, regional headquarters, and external advisors to manage legal risk, strengthen governance standards, and support operational growth within a regulated production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main legal point of contact for the local business unit.
- Provide advisory support on employment and labour-related matters, including employee relations, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and operational agreements.
- Advise management on corporate governance matters and ensure adherence to statutory and internal compliance requirements.
- Support regulatory and environmental compliance obligations relevant to industrial operations.
- Work closely with HR on workplace investigations, grievances and disciplinary processes.
- Oversee compliance initiatives, audits and internal investigations where required.
- Manage relationships with external counsel for specialised legal matters.
- Track legislative developments and advise leadership on risk implications.
- Contribute to the development and scaling of the local legal function as the business grows.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with an active practising certificate in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience, ideally with exposure to in-house advisory work.
- Experience supporting operational or asset-heavy businesses (e.g. industrial, engineering, infrastructure, production or similar environments) will be advantageous.
- Strong grounding in corporate, commercial and employment law.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks within a structured operating environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proficiency in conversational Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia required for regional stakeholder engagement. (must have)
- Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment and ability to operate independently.
