Lestari Capital Position Description: Legal Associate

Location: Bali, Indonesia

Employment Status: Fulltime

Established in 2017, Lestari Capital is a conservation finance company, based in Southeast Asia, that develops innovative, nature-based products that enable companies to deliver on their sustainability objectives. We accomplish this by mobilising new finance for initiatives that protect and rehabilitate important natural landscapes around the world. The Indonesian word Lestari means sustainable, or everlasting, signifying our commitment to developing long-term sources of finance for high quality conservation and restoration initiatives.

Lestari Capital's impact model addresses a critical need for long-term operating capital for conservation and restoration projects run by local communities, non-profit organisations and environmental services companies. Lestari Capital aims to strengthen Southeast Asia's emerging ecosystem services marketplace, by connecting demand for on-the-ground conservation efforts among commodity producers/buyers with projects that are protecting or restoring forests where these companies operate, to protect at-risk areas.

Position Overview

This position will be part of the Legal Department and a member of a multidisciplinary team that is creating solutions in the increasingly critical sustainability space. Reporting to the Legal Counsel, this position is expected to assist with legal matters related to Lestari Capital's businesses. The ideal candidate would be passionate about applying their energy and skills to work that makes a difference to our environment. The right candidate needs to have the ability to provide legal input while considering the nature of the specific situation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference more directly and contribute to impactful action on our forest ecosystems.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Conduct legal due diligence of projects and project operators, working with the appointed external law firm
  2. Preparation of documentation relating to transactions
  3. Assist with ensuring compliance of PT Lestari Capital Indonesia both regulatory and corporate governance
  4. Contract drafting and review
  5. Coordination of contract signing and other formalities
  6. Legal documents filing and administration
  7. Research and keep updated on Indonesian regulation and government policies relevant to the Lestari Capital's businesses, including prepare internal legal memorandum and presentations
  8. Support Chief Legal Officer and Legal Counsel across a spectrum of legal issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in law from leading universities in Indonesia
  • 2 years + experience in a multi-department law firm (in Corporate/Commercial dept)
  • High proficiency in MS Office/Word/PowerPoint
  • Experience with documentation software (e.g. Adobe PDF) and filing systems and workflow process tools
  • Accustomed to working with cross functional teams
  • High professional ethics, integrity, discretion and confidentiality
  • Excellent Bahasa Indonesia and English communication skills written and verbal
