Instrument Engineer – Oil & Gas Offshore (Project-Based)

Location: Offshore / Site & Office (Hybrid Project Assignment)

Role Summary

The Instrument Engineer is responsible for the engineering design, specification, technical review, and installation support of instrumentation and control systems for offshore oil and gas facilities. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, project requirements, safety regulations, and operational integrity throughout the project lifecycle (FEED, EPC, Commissioning & Start-Up).

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop and review instrumentation design deliverables, including datasheets, sizing calculations, material requisitions, and I/O lists.
  • Prepare and validate technical documentation such as:
  • Instrument Index
  • Cause & Effect Matrix
  • Control Philosophy
  • Loop Diagrams
  • Hook-up drawings
  • Perform instrument sizing and selection (control valves, flow meters, pressure/temperature instrumentation, analyzers, gas detectors, etc.).
  • Ensure design complies with international standards (API, IEC, ISA, ATEX, SIL, NEMA, ISO, NEC) and project specifications.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Prepare MR (Material Requisition), TBE (Technical Bid Evaluation), and vendor documents.
  • Liaise with vendors for FAT, SAT, calibration, testing, and technical clarifications.
  • Validate interface requirements with automation systems (PLC, SCADA, DCS, ESD, F&G).

Construction & Installation Support

  • Provide engineering support during construction, installation, and testing at offshore site.
  • Review and approve construction drawings, method statements, and red-line mark-ups.
  • Support inspection and validation for:
  • Instrument cable routing
  • Junction boxes installation
  • Calibration and loop checks
  • Functional and pre-commissioning testing

Commissioning & Start-Up

  • Support commissioning activities including:
  • Instrument functional checks
  • Troubleshooting control logic
  • Punch list review and closure
  • Participate in SAT, FAT, HAZOP, HAZID, SIL assessment, and technical workshops.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure all instrumentation designs prioritize process safety and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–10 years experience as Instrument/Control Engineer in Oil & Gas projects (Offshore preferred).
  • Experience in EPC or FEED environments is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Control systems (PLC, DCS, ESD, F&G)
  • Field instrumentation and analyzers
  • Hazardous area design (Ex, IECEx, ATEX)
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as:
  • SPI (INTools)
  • AutoCAD / SmartPlant
  • AVEVA Instrumentation (preferred)
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management capability.
  • Able to work independently and within multidisciplinary team environments.
  • Willing to travel and work offshore as required.
