Job Description

Position Summary

The Expert R&D & New Product Development (NPD) is responsible for leading research, product development, and technical innovation during the commissioning and start-up of the OKI 3 Paper Mill. The role focuses on developing new paper grades, optimizing product performance, supporting trial production, and ensuring customer requirements are translated into commercially viable products. Working closely with Production, Process, Quality Control, Sales, and Technical Service teams, this position ensures successful product qualification and continuous innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and qualification of new paper grades during commissioning and start-up.
  • Design, plan, and execute laboratory, pilot, and machine trials for new products.
  • Optimize product formulations and process parameters to achieve target quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Evaluate raw materials, pulp blends, fillers, chemicals, and additives for product performance improvement.
  • Develop product specifications, technical standards, and manufacturing guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Production and Process teams to transfer new products into stable commercial production.
  • Support customer qualification trials and resolve technical issues related to product performance.
  • Analyze product testing data and recommend improvements based on statistical and technical evaluation.
  • Benchmark competitor products and identify opportunities for product innovation and differentiation.
  • Ensure all product development activities comply with quality, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, development documentation, and product approval records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities for cost reduction and product enhancement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Pulp & Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in paper R&D, product development, or technical innovation.
  • Strong knowledge of papermaking processes, paper properties, fiber technology, and chemical applications.
  • Experience in machine trials, product qualification, and commercial product launch.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing methods and paper performance evaluation.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and problem-solving methodologies is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in technical reporting and data analysis.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • A contract-based during project phase, with a high chance of permanent during operation & maintenance phase.
  • Willing to be placed in OKI, South Sumatra.
