Job Description
About Lush Pets Nutrition and Wellness
Lush Pets Co. is an established Indonesian pet-retail business expanding into veterinary-led pet wellness, preventive healthcare, and personalized nutrition.
We are developing Lush Pets Nutrition & Wellness, a new service designed to help pet owners make better-informed decisions about their pets health, nutrition, and long-term wellbeing.
We are looking for an experienced veterinarian to serve as a consultant during the development and launch of this new initiative. This is an opportunity to help build a wellness service from the ground up, combining veterinary expertise, diagnostic testing, preventive care, and evidence-based nutritional guidance.
Role Overview
The Veterinary Consultant will advise on the clinical concept, service development, diagnostic capabilities, nutritional consultation framework, and operational protocols for Lush Pets Nutrition & Wellness.
The ideal candidate has strong small-animal clinical knowledge, an interest in veterinary nutrition and preventive healthcare, and the ability to translate veterinary expertise into practical services for pet owners.
Key Responsibilities
1. Veterinary Wellness Service Development
- Help design the clinic's initial service menu, including wellness examinations, preventive health assessments, weight management, and nutrition consultations.
- Recommend appropriate clinical workflows, patient intake procedures, examination protocols, and follow-up processes.
- Establish evidence-based clinical guidelines and standard operating procedures.
- Advise on patient referral criteria and the scope of services appropriate for the initial launch.
2. Diagnostic Equipment & Laboratory Planning
- Recommend suitable in-house diagnostic equipment based on the clinic's budget, anticipated caseload, and clinical needs.
- Advise on CBC hematology analyzers, blood chemistry analyzers, and other appropriate point-of-care testing equipment.
- Establish testing workflows, quality-control procedures, and guidelines for interpreting results.
- Help define when laboratory findings warrant additional investigation, specialist referral, or treatment.
3. Pet Nutrition & Individualized Feeding Plans
- Develop a structured nutrition assessment process using medical history, body condition scoring, weight, lifestyle, dietary intake, and relevant laboratory findings.
- Create protocols for recommending commercial diets and appropriate dietary adjustments.
- Advise on nutrition strategies for healthy pets and pets with specific medical or nutritional needs.
- Help establish clear boundaries between general nutrition advice and diets requiring veterinary diagnosis and medical management.
- Support evidence-based product recommendations without compromising clinical independence.
4. Operations & Team Training
- Advise on the qualifications, staffing, equipment, supplies, and workflows required to deliver the proposed services.
- Develop clinical documentation, informed-consent procedures, and patient recordkeeping protocols.
- Train relevant team members in appropriate patient handling, nutrition assessment workflows, and clinic procedures.
- Support the pre-launch review and ongoing improvement of the service.
5. Regulatory & Professional Standards
- Advise on veterinary practice requirements, professional responsibilities, and applicable Indonesian regulations.
- Help identify the relevant veterinary professional credentials, facility requirements, and approvals needed before services commence.
- Ensure that proposed clinical services and diagnostic procedures are consistent with applicable professional standards.
Qualifications
- Veterinary degree and appropriate professional registration and practice authorization in Indonesia for any regulated clinical work.
- Experience in small-animal veterinary practice, preferably with dogs and cats.
- Knowledge of preventive healthcare, clinical pathology, diagnostic testing, and pet nutrition.
- Ability to interpret laboratory findings in the context of a patient's history and physical examination.
- Experience developing clinical protocols, training teams, or establishing veterinary services is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain medical and nutritional concepts to non-veterinary audiences.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in developing a practical, sustainable veterinary wellness service.
Additional experience in veterinary nutrition, clinical pathology, internal medicine, or veterinary practice management is an advantage.
Engagement & Deliverables
The engagement will begin with a clinic-development and launch-planning phase. Depending on the candidate's availability and experience, there may be opportunities for ongoing clinical consultation or veterinary services.
Initial deliverables may include:
- A recommended wellness service menu and clinical scope.
- A diagnostic equipment and laboratory setup recommendation.
- A veterinary nutrition consultation framework.
- Initial clinical SOPs and patient workflows.
- Staffing and training recommendations.
- A pre-launch clinical readiness assessment.
The scope, timeline, and compensation will be agreed upon based on the candidate's experience and proposed level of involvement.
