This position is responsible for performing activities within the Utilities Operations function, particularly related to the operation and maintenance of facilities that provide essential services such as water, compressed air, steam, and other utilities.
The role includes managing distribution and wastewater collection systems, monitoring controls, and ensuring the availability of materials and supplies.
Additionally, the position supports the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS), assists in ensuring compliance with environmental statutory and regulatory requirements, and performs other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Mandatory objectives (Applied for all employees and contractor): Implement and comply with Occupational Health Safety & Environment (OHSE) Policy, Quality & Environmental Management System, BSL Policy, Code of Conduct (How We Work), Collective Labour Agreement (CLA) and Government Regulations.
- Perform utility-related activities as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Operate utility equipment in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Conduct routine inspections and accurately record operational parameters in log sheets.
- Carry out minor preventive maintenance tasks and promptly report any abnormalities or equipment failures to the Supervisor.
- Prepare work permits and maintain all required administrative documentation related to Utilities & Services maintenance.
- Provide input to the Supervisor regarding material and spare parts requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance utility system reliability and energy efficiency.
- Assist in the development and updating of departmental SOPs and emergency response procedures for utility operations.
- Participate in training related to work methods, tools and equipment usage, and safety practices.
- Provide input to the Supervisor regarding personnel development needs.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and immediately report any safety incidents.
- Be available for shift work and respond to emergency situations as required.
- Perform backup duties as necessary, including operating various types of motorized and utility equipment.
Qualification And/or Experience Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in operations and maintenance activities relevant to the assigned area.
- Knowledge of safety precautions, occupational hazards, and safe work methods in the use of tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Qualification And/or Experience Required
- Valid certifications related to the Utilities & Services area (e.g., boiler operation, wastewater collection and treatment, environmental control, etc.) will be highly desirable.
