About The Role

AIA is seeking an experienced Underwriter (Syariah) to lead the Syariah underwriting function by establishing robust underwriting governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory and Syariah principles, optimizing risk selection and portfolio performance, and overseeing ParentCo underwriting operations to support NewCo's growth, profitability, and customer service objectives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Strategic Responsibilities

• Provides strategic oversight to ensure underwriting aligns with Syariah, product, and profitability goals
• Defines and maintains underwriting standards, risk appetite, and exception policies
• Makes decisions on escalated cases outside standard SOP
• Monitors underwriting outcomes to inform strategic interventions or policy updates

Operational Responsibilities

• Oversees ParentCo's underwriting operations to ensure SLA and quality alignment
• Ensures compliance with regulatory, internal, and Syariah underwriting standards
• Reviews performance and exception reports for policy refinement
• Ensures ParentCo underwriter are trained on NewCo-specific products and Syariah principles.

Requirements:

• Minimum bachelor degree of Medicine, Nursing, or related field.
• At least 5 years relevant experience in underwriting insurance.
• At least 3 years relevant experience in new business insurance.
• At least 5 years have experience in managerial level in insurance or financial company.
• Having strong analysis and good leadership.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation and organizational skill.
• Good communication in English, both oral and written.
• Proficient in windows (i.e. Word/Excell/Power Point/Visio).
• Able to work in fast-paced environment with positive attitude and target/service oriented.
