Job Summary

Reviva Transition Partners is seeking a Technical Lead to bring specialist expertise to the assessment, acquisition, transition, and value creation of coal power assets across emerging markets. The role is positioned at the intersection of technical due diligence, investment decision-making, asset transition planning, and portfolio value creation, working closely with the investment team, management teams, operators, and external advisors.

The role shall also support the assessment and implementation of energy transition initiatives, including plant repurposing opportunities, retirement planning, renewable integration, and energy storage projects by coordinating with internal teams, technical consultants, and external stakeholders.

This position offers flexibility to commence either as a specialist part-time engagement, with the expectation that the position may evolve into a full-time role as Reviva's portfolio and activities expand.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1.    Pre-Investment Assessment and Transaction Support

·      Support technical due diligence of prospective investments, including review of plant condition, operational performance, remaining useful life and maintenance history.

·      Review key project agreements including fuel supply agreements, PPAs, O&M contracts, land arrangements, water rights and grid connection agreements to identify technical and operational risks.

·      Contribute to the development of strategy for, negotiations to develop and/or modify key project agreements (power, steam, water agreements, partnership agreements) to achieve strategic objectives.

·      Manage engagements end to end with with external technical consultants undertaking due diligence studies and grid studies.

·      Evaluate plant flexibility, cycling capability, auxiliary consumption, heat rates and operating constraints to support investment decision-making.

·      Analyze plant performance, availability, heat rates, operating costs, capital expenditure requirements, and operating constraints to assess key risks, opportunities and implications for cash flows, financing assumptions, valuation, and investment decision.

·      Support preparation of technical inputs for investment memoranda, transition plans and Investment Committee materials.

2.    Asset Transition Oversight and Value Assurance:

·      Review operational, maintenance, and performance reports from management teams and operators to assess whether assets continue to perform in line with the acquisition business case and transition objectives.

·      Support assessment of operational efficiency improvements, flexibility enhancements, and other measures that may strengthen asset value and transition outcomes.

·      Liaise with plant management, operational leadership teams, operators, OEMs, and technical specialists to identify emerging performance issues, risks, and value enhancement opportunities.

3.    Technical Administration and Reporting:

·      Monitor technical developments, market trends, and regulatory changes relevant to coal transition, thermal asset repurposing, renewable integration, and energy storage

·      Benchmark plant performance, operating practices, and transition pathways against comparable assets and international best practices.

·      Evaluate emerging technologies and assess their implications for investment decisions, transition strategies, and portfolio value creation.

·      Support technical studies, assessments, and external advisory engagements relevant to the investment portfolio and pipeline.

4.    Business Case and Performance Monitoring

·      Supporting the development and strengthening of investment business cases.

·      Monitoring delivery of the business case post-acquisition.

·      Understanding performance against plan, budget, and operational targets.

5.    Team Supervision and Collaboration

·      Work closely with the investment team and senior leadership to provide technical insights supporting investment decisions.

·      Organize and supervise the work of the assigned team to ensure all activities are carried out efficiently and in accordance with operating procedures and policies.

·      Promote the organization's values and ethics within the team and contribute to a positive work culture.

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or another related discipline.

2.    Master's degree is beneficial.

3.    Minimum eight (8) years of relevant experience in thermal power generation, preferably coal-fired power plants, plant performance engineering or operational excellence functions.

4.    Familiarity with renewable energy integration, battery energy storage systems, thermal asset repurposing studies or plant retirement planning would be advantageous.

5.    Experience working with management teams, operational leadership teams, asset operators, engineering consultants, OEMs, grid operators, and external technical advisors in the evaluation, acquisition, operation, or transition of thermal power assets.

Compensation and Location

1.    Compensation: Competitively structured with consideration for experience and role-specific responsibilities.

2.    Location: Remote.

Candidates to be based out of South Asia (preferably India) and South East Asia - Indonesia and Malaysia
