JOB DESCRIPTION
The Sustainability Specialist applies their conceptual knowledge of Sustainability with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership and is responsible for solving a range of straightforward Sustainability problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures and building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Sustainability Specialist understands key business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
The Sustainability Specialist is responsible for one or more of the following disciplines (Sustainability, Environmental)
Sustainability
- Directly develop plans and implementation of the project's social responsibility program, including but not limited to:
- National and local content
- Social risk and impact
- Community investment
- Stakeholder engagement
- Grievance management
- Human rights
- Face-to-face and virtual training for employees
- Ensure coordination and strategic alignment across project/corporate social and national content initiatives that other functions, such as Environment, Safety, Security, Administration, HR, and Supply Chain, may own
- Work with the client and project team to identify collaborative solutions to project issues or requirements
- Promote SR business objectives, including risk reduction, reputational capital, employee engagement, and cost efficiency
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, local law, and international standards, such as the IFC
- Performance Standards, UNGPs, UN Global Compact, ISO 2600
Environmental
- Lead training sessions for internal teams on ESG reporting best practices
- Analyze emerging ESG frameworks to recommend improvements in reporting
- Coordinate with external consultants for specialized ESG compliance advice
- Spearhead initiatives to enhance FigBytes platform functionalities
- Contribute insights to shape McDermott's stance on emerging ESG issues
- Develop and deliver advanced training programs on ESG compliance
- Lead internal workshops to refine and align ESG reporting processes
- Collaborate with legal for detailed analysis of evolving ESG regulations
- Spearhead the development of comprehensive ESG data analytics
- Implement FigBytes platform customization for advanced reporting needs
- Establish and maintain relationships with industry experts for ESG insights. 12. Lead cross-functional teams in ESG disclosure preparation
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Sociology, International Studies, Political Science, Human Rights, Supply Chain, Legal, or a similar field
- Master's degree in Sustainability, Social Responsibility, International Development, Human Rights, or a similar field is strongly preferred
- 3+ years of experience in Social Responsibility/Sustainability or a non-profit community development program management is preferred
- Experience in the development of National Content Plans (for different countries/projects)
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
- Excellent data management skills, comfortable using digital tools and databases
- Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken
- Flexibility to work across time zones
- Fluent English language skills required (other languages preferred)
