Job Overview:

The Structural Engineer is responsible for performing routine assignments with some degree of independence. Applying their knowledge and experience into practice, they still require assistance with more complex problems. Solving structural detailing engineering problems by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents. Explaining complex information in straightforward situation.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve accurate and detailed structural shop drawings using 2D/3D CAD and/or other detailing software for fabrication.
  • Raise Site Query Sheets (SQS) related to design drawings (e.g., clashes in design models/drawings, discrepancies, or requests for clarification with design engineering).
  • Provide input on shop drawing progress.
  • Collaborate closely with production engineers, shop engineers, PMT, design engineers, and other detailing engineers in developing structural shop drawings, ensuring compliance with design drawings, specifications, and fabrication requirements.
  • Coordinate with the lead engineer to resolve technical issues.
  • Identify changes, raise change orders for any work performed outside the original scope.
  • Prepare and review weight change reports.
  • Conduct regular self-inspections and quality checks to verify adherence to design drawings and codes.
  • Review and approve red-line markup drawings for as-built documentation.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to drafting and design.
  • Contribute improvement initiatives or innovative solutions to enhance productivity, quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness within the department.
  • Monitor the SQS or change register to ensure all changes are properly tracked.
  • Prepare shop drawing development schedules and corresponding work hour budgets for each activity.
  • Review and monitor progress, work hour bookings, and productivity for the structural discipline.
  • To perform as a lead engineer in a project within the department.
  • Participate in detailing engineering project set up.
  • Prepare project procedures within the department.
  • Prepare and review workforce plans and forecasts based on project schedules and actual progress.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in offshore or ocean engineering, naval architecture, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably with a background in fabrication or drafting engineering.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of technical drawing principles and standards.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes related to drafting.
  • Strong proficiency in written and verbal communication in English.
  • Good teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with the drafting team.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in resolving challenges related to drawing development.
  • Proactive, willing to learn, and committed to delivering high performance while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards.
  • Understanding of fabrication sequence and material management.
  • Good knowledge of fabrication or engineering software such as Tekla Structures, or other relevant tools used in the industry.
  • A licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.
