Job Description
Software Engineering Manager to lead and manage software engineering teams in designing, developing, and delivering scalable, reliable, and high-quality software solutions. This role will oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle while ensuring technical excellence, delivery performance, and alignment with business objectives.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in software engineering, people leadership, system design, and hands-on knowledge of .NET or Ruby on Rails development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop software engineering teams to achieve technical and business objectives.
- Define engineering standards, development practices, and coding guidelines.
- Drive a culture of collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching, and career development for engineering team members.
2. Software Development & Delivery
- Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and technical design to development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Ensure software products are delivered according to agreed scope, timeline, quality, and business requirements.
- Work closely with Product Managers, Business/IT stakeholders, QA, DevOps, and other teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Monitor engineering progress, identify delivery risks, and implement mitigation plans.
3. Technical Architecture & Engineering Excellence
- Provide technical direction and guidance on application architecture, system design, scalability, security, and performance.
- Review and evaluate technical solutions, design decisions, and implementation approaches.
- Ensure applications are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with engineering best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement of existing systems, including refactoring, modernization, and technical debt management.
- Promote best practices in code quality, testing, version control, CI/CD, and system monitoring.
4. Technology Development
- Provide technical leadership and guidance for applications developed using .NET / C# or Ruby on Rails.
- Ensure effective implementation of APIs, databases, integrations, and backend services.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools based on business and technical requirements.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity and system capabilities.
5. Stakeholder & Project Management
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Communicate project status, technical risks, dependencies, and resource requirements to management.
- Support technology planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and engineering roadmap development.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of technology initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong experience in software development using .NET / C# or Ruby on Rails.
- Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming, RESTful APIs, database design, software architecture, and system integration.
- Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and engineering best practices.
- Experience managing and mentoring software engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced, or enterprise environment is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and managing scalable, high-availability systems.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud.
- Experience with microservices, containerization, Docker/Kubernetes, or event-driven architecture.
- Experience implementing software engineering standards, code review processes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience in retail, e-commerce, marketplace, loyalty/membership, or other consumer-facing technology environments is a plus.
