Senior Software Engineer

We're looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to scale up our engineering team.

About the team

Our engineering team is distributed across Melbourne and Indonesia. Both of our co-founders are hands-on software engineers, so engineering is deeply embedded in how we build and grow.

You'll be joining at an early stage of team expansion, with real influence over technical decisions, standards, and culture. We're looking for someone who can set a high technical standard as the team continues to expand.

Technology

The heart of Influx is an internal product we call the People App. It's what we call a socio-technological system. Many of the challenges we face are not only technical in nature—we are designing systems involving both people and technology.

The People App is a Ruby on Rails monolith running on a Postgres database. Using a simple architecture and solving problems in simple ways allows us to scale up while engineers can focus on work that delivers business value.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of experience in software development
• Strong experience with Ruby, Rails, and PostgreSQL
• Familiarity with JavaScript, AWS, or Heroku is a plus
• Experience designing and building efficient, reliable (yet maintainable) systems
• Strong product thinking; able to identify, prioritize, and focus on high-impact problems
• Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into clear, practical solutions
• Excellent written and spoken English communication
• Comfortable working in a small, autonomous, distributed team
• Curious, collaborative, and proactive mindset
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Eagerness to learn and continuously improve
