About the role
We're a pre-seed startup building the operating system for Indonesia's logistics ecosystem. You'll partner with our founding team—both Silicon Valley transplants. CTO (ex-Airbnb, YComb) and CEO (ex-TikTok, Lyft).
Every engineer here owns services end to end. We're hiring one backend/fullstack engineer to own architecture across our product surface as we scale into Q4.
Location: Surabaya, Hybrid (3 days/week in office)
Reportsto: CEO
What You'll Do
- Work autonomously. Sometimes you'll get a spec. Sometimes you'll get a problem and a customer, and you figure out the rest. Big calls get a quick sign-off from the CTO or CEO — everything else is yours. No ticket queue, no committee, no waiting weeks for a decision.
- Own systems outright. One or two products are yours: API contracts, data models, service boundaries, performance. You make the architectural calls and defend them in review.
- Build our AI infrastructure from the ground up. We're early here — the foundations aren't built yet. Help us build them and they're yours to own and grow with as the company scales.
- You build it, you run it. Deploy, monitor, fix. Nobody hands your service off to an ops team.
- Mentor our junior engineers. Two of them, hungry and improving fast. Code review and pairing are part of the job, not something you squeeze in.
Our Stack
Kotlin · Spring Boot · React · GraphQL · PostgreSQL · AWS
You should be strong in most of this, or strong enough elsewhere that picking it up is a non-issue. AWS experience is a plus, not a requirement — you'll learn it here either way. We care about your systems judgment far more than your syntax.
What We Need
- 3+ years building and running backend systems in production. Two is fine if the work speaks for itself.
- Real production experience — you've designed schemas that outlived their first assumptions, debugged something ugly at scale, and have opinions about monitoring.
- Self-direction. You ask good questions, then go.
- Writing. Design docs, API documentation, clear PR descriptions. We're small and moving fast; writing is how we stay coordinated.
- Comfort with ambiguity. You'll make decisions on incomplete information and occasionally be wrong. Some of what you build in year one will get rewritten.
- Fluent in English. Speak, read, write clearly at a professional proficiency or better.
Bonus: supply chain, logistics, or accounting domain experience · microservices at scale · prior work shipping LLM-powered or agentic features · open source.
