The Senior Process & Utility Engineer is responsible for designing and optimizing industrial process and utility systems across various industries. The role involves conceptual to detailed engineering, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and active engagement with clients to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable engineering solutions.
What will you do
- Lead conceptual, basic, and detailed engineering for process and utility systems (ISBL/OSBL) including steam, condensate, boilers, cooling water, chilled water, compressed air, nitrogen, fuel systems, water and wastewater treatment
- Act as technical authority for process and utility design, ensuring compliance with client requirements, applicable codes, standards, and best engineering practices
- Develop, review, and approve design bases, design criteria, BFDs, PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, utility balance sheets, hydraulic calculations, equipment and line lists
- Size and select major process and utility equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressors, and treatment units
- Lead and coordinate process and utility engineering activities across project phases to achieve quality, cost, and schedule targets
- Interface with mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil, and 3D model teams to ensure integrated and constructible designs
- Review and approve vendor bids, datasheets, technical clarifications, and contractor deliverables
- Support project management with technical input, risk identification, change evaluation, and engineering progress reporting
- Serve as main focal point for process and utilities in meetings with clients, vendors, contractors, and authorities
- Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting
- Lead or participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and design review workshops and ensure closure of actions
- Ensure HSE, quality, operability, and maintainability principles are embedded in the design
- Integrate energy efficiency, water optimization, decarbonization, and sustainability concepts into engineering solutions
- Mentor and technically guide junior and medior engineers, including review of their deliverables
- Drive standardization, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the engineering team
Where you will work
This position is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, within the Industry & Buildings Department of PT Haskoning Indonesia. The role primarily works from the Jakarta office, with collaboration across local and international project teams and occasional meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors.
What you bring
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering acceptable with strong process and utility design experience
- 8–12+ years experience in process and utility engineering within consultancy and/or EPC environments
- Strong background in industrial and manufacturing utility systems
- Proven expertise in process design, utility calculations, and equipment sizing
- Proficient in relevant process modeling and simulation tools
- Solid knowledge of international codes, standards, and regulations
- Experience leading or participating in HAZOP, HAZID, and process safety reviews
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Ability to lead technical discussions and act as a senior technical authority
- Effective English communication skills, written and verbal
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams
