Senior Java Developer

Description

Anaqua is seeking a Senior Java Developer to take ownership of core backend services on RightHub, our distributed, domain-driven Java platform on GCP. In this hands-on senior role, you will own services end-to-end, design domain events and service integrations, and set the technical bar for the engineers around you. This role suits someone with strong distributed-systems instincts and a track record of mentoring.

• Own services end-to-end on a modern Java + Spring Boot platform — design, implementation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Design domain events and the integrations between services — event types, processors, idempotency, and eventual-consistency boundaries.
• Extend the shared platform libraries — auth, async tasks, common infrastructure — that every service in the company depends on.
• Write code that is genuinely tested — strong unit, integration, and contract testing as part of the development loop.
• Drive performance and reliability work, including query optimisation, debugging distributed flows, and capacity planning.
• Raise the engineering bar through code review, technical design docs, and mentoring mid-level engineers.
• Work across a modern stack: Java (latest LTS), Spring Boot 3.x, Spring Cloud GCP, Kubernetes (GKE), PostgreSQL with a domain-event model, and contract-first APIs with OpenAPI.
• Work closely with frontend engineers on the Next.js application when shipping features that cross the boundary.
  
  

What You'll Need To Be Successful

• 5+ years of senior-level Java engineering with proven production ownership of services real users depend on.
• Strong Spring Boot in production — fluent on transactional boundaries, connection pools, JVM tuning, and how things break under load.
• Distributed-systems thinking — async messaging, idempotency, retries, ordering, eventual consistency, and clean bounded contexts.
• Comfort with domain-driven design and event-sourcing patterns, designing domain events that capture state transitions.
• Contract-first API design with OpenAPI, deep PostgreSQL (schema design, indexing, migrations under load).
• Production experience running services on Kubernetes, with hands-on experience on a major public cloud (GCP preferred).
• Strong testing discipline and extensive experience converting business requirements to technical requirements.
• Track record of mentoring, raising the engineering bar, and excellent written and spoken English.
• Spring Cloud GCP/Pub/Sub/Cloud Run, reusable internal libraries, React/Next.js knowledge, or IP/legal-tech/regulated B2B SaaS exposure all an advantage.
