Job Description

About the role

The Senior Finance Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end financial operations of assigned legal entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, effective financial controls, and operational excellence. The role independently oversees finance operations, partners with cross-functional stakeholders, and supports the Head of Finance in delivering a strong financial governance framework across Forest Carbon.

Key Responsibilities:

Entity Finance Management

  • Serve as the primary finance lead for up to two (2) assigned legal entities, providing end-to-end finance ownership across accounting, taxation, treasury, reporting, audit, and financial compliance.
  • Daily collaboration with field stakeholders to ensure effective financial management and support operational decision-making.
  • Identify and escalate significant financial risks, compliance issues, and control gaps to the Head of Finance.

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Lead the accounting and financial closing process, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger balances to maintain financial integrity.
  • Prepare management reports and analyze financial performance against budgets and forecasts.

Treasury, Accounts Management & Budget Control

  • Manage treasury activities, cash flow, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable to ensure timely collections and payments.
  • Monitor budget utilization and working capital, highlighting significant variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are supported by complete documentation and appropriate approvals.

Tax, Audit & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies.
  • Prepare and review tax filings, coordinate audits, and maintain audit-ready financial records.
  • Implement corrective actions arising from audits and compliance reviews.

Financial Governance & Process Improvement

  • Maintain effective internal controls, finance policies, and documentation standards across assigned entities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, systems, and operational efficiency through standardization and automation.
  • Support finance system implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Stakeholder & Team Management

  • Collaborate with HR, Procurement, Program Management, Investment & Growth, Science & Impact, Community, Tech, and Field teams to support operational and strategic objectives.
  • Build effective working relationships with auditors, tax consultants, banks, vendors, and government authorities.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and quality review to stakeholders and junior Finance team members where applicable.
