Senior Beef Cattle Breeding & Genetics Specialist

Our client is a leading Indonesian agricultural group with significant ambitions to develop and expand its commercial beef cattle breeding operations. As part of this growth strategy, the Group is seeking an experienced Beef Cattle Breeding & Genetics Specialist to lead the development of its cattle breeding program and establish world-class breeding, herd management and genetic improvement practices

This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced cattle professional with 10+ years of commercial experience in beef cattle breeding, ideally gained in Australia or New Zealand

About the Senior Beef Cattle Breeding & Genetics Specialist:

Breeding & Genetics

• Develop and implement the Group's overall beef cattle breeding strategy
• Establish breeding objectives aligned with commercial beef production, including growth, fertility, feed efficiency, calving performance, carcass quality and overall herd productivity.
• Develop and manage genetic selection and mating programs
• Evaluate breeding stock and advise on selection, culling and replacement strategies
• Establish appropriate performance recording and genetic evaluation systems
• Advise on the selection and introduction of suitable genetics, including imported breeding stock, semen and/or embryos where appropriate
• Work with external genetic suppliers, breeders, veterinarians and industry specialists

Reproductive Management

• Develop best-practice reproductive programs across the breeding herd
• Improve conception rates, calving rates and reproductive efficiency
• Oversee artificial insemination and other reproductive technologies where appropriate
• Establish protocols for heat detection, pregnancy diagnosis, calving management and herd fertility
• Monitor reproductive KPIs and implement corrective actions where required

Capability Building

• Train, mentor and develop Indonesian livestock and farm management teams
• Introduce international best practices while adapting them to local environmental and operational conditions
• Build a culture of disciplined data collection, performance measurement and continuous improvement
• Work closely with senior management to translate technical breeding objectives into measurable commercial outcomes

Commercial & Strategic Responsibilities

• Provide senior management with recommendations on herd development and genetic strategy
• Establish budgets and investment priorities for breeding and genetic improvement
• Monitor the financial and operational impact of the breeding program
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, herd quality and cost efficiency
• Contribute to the Group's broader strategy for developing a scalable, commercially sustainable beef business

The successful candidate will bring strong practical knowledge of beef genetics, reproductive management, herd improvement and commercial cattle production, together with the ability to build capability within a local Indonesian team. This is specifically a beef cattle role, rather than a dairy/milk-production position

Skills and experience needed:

• 15+ years professional experience in beef cattle breeding and/or commercial beef production
• Strong practical experience specifically with beef cattle, rather than dairy cattle
• Ideally, professional experience in Australia or New Zealand, or another internationally recognized beef-producing market
• Demonstrated experience managing or influencing commercial cattle breeding programs at meaningful scale
• Strong knowledge of beef cattle genetics and genetic selection
• Significant experience in reproductive management and herd fertility
• Practical understanding of artificial insemination, pregnancy management and breeding program implementation
• Experience with herd performance data, genetic evaluation and breeding records
• Strong understanding of animal nutrition, health and general herd management
• Willingness and enthusiasm to relocate to Indonesia for a long-term assignment
