Job Overview:
The Coating / Painting Inspector applies conceptual and practical knowledge of coating inspection and, with moderate guidance from senior inspectors or quality leadership, is responsible for resolving straightforward coating and painting inspection issues. The role involves performing inspections in accordance with approved procedures, drawings, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), while developing a strong understanding of company processes, project requirements, and customer expectations. The inspector applies judgment, technical experience, and recognized standards to assess coating conformity and support project milestones.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Perform inspection and surveillance of surface preparation, coating, and painting activities in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, Project Quality Plans, and ITPs.
- Verify surface preparation methods (e.g., blasting, cleaning), coating materials, application techniques, environmental conditions, and curing processes.
- Measure and record coating parameters such as surface profile, cleanliness, dry film thickness (DFT), wet film thickness (WFT), adhesion, and visual appearance.
- Identify coating non-conformities, raise inspection reports and NCRs where applicable, and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions are implemented and closed.
- Ensure all inspection results are properly documented, traceable, and maintained in accordance with project and quality requirements.
- Coordinate inspection activities and interfaces with Operations, Engineering, Certifying Authorities, Clients, subcontractors, and job-sharing personnel to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Liaise with Client and third-party inspectors to obtain stage releases and approvals in line with the Project Quality Plan / ITP.
- Proactively engage with Production, Coating Applicators, Engineers, and Management to prevent defects and promote quality awareness.
- Ensure inspection equipment is calibrated, suitable for use, and handled in accordance with approved procedures.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- High school diploma or degree in a relevant technical or engineering field.
- Minimum five (5+) years of coating / painting inspection experience with a degree, or eight (8+) years with a diploma.
- Certification such as NACE/AMPP, BGAS, FROSIO, or equivalent coating inspection qualification is preferred.
- Sound knowledge of international standards (e.g., ISO, NACE/AMPP, SSPC, ASTM).
- Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office applications.
