A company which develops high-integrity, nature-based solution (NbS) carbon projects in South and Southeast Asia, is looking to recruit an experienced Project Manager. You would be accountable for moving a vast, multi-million-dollar agroforestry initiative from its planning phase into operations
This role is based in Manado, North Sulawesi or Makassar, Sulawesi, with regular travel to project sites across the region including remote locations
About the Project Manager opportunity:
- Lead the planning of the projects to ensure project success and meeting committed timelines
- Set up the right systems and processes for any inevitable changes that may occur throughout the project lifecycle
- Develop and oversee project budgets, monitor actuals, oversee variance analysis, and devise risk and mitigation plans to ensure project is on track, achieving goals and maintaining fiscal responsibility
- Collaborate with implementing partners, local communities, and government agencies to ensure project success
- Manage the project execution on the ground via the field partners, while setting up the right governance to ensure the company has the right visibility, and ability to support course correction as needed
- Negotiate and manage agreements with implementation partners, NGOs, landowners, and buyers, ensuring obligations, milestones, and incentives are clearly defined and upheld across the project landscape
- Monitor project progress, evaluate outcomes, and prepare detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Reflect regularly on our approach to project development and inform continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project effectiveness
The successful candidate will be responsible for moving a vast, multi-million-dollar agroforestry initiative from its planning phase into operations, as the on-the-ground operational lead for the project
Skills and experience needed:
- Strong passion for nature, and for being in nature
- Minimum of 10 years of project management experience, with at least five years in a leadership role
- Proven expertise as a project manager in agroforestry, forestry or plantation management. Strong project management and implementation backgrounds in other large-scale sectors - such as renewables or other infrastructure sectors - are equally welcome
- Experience working with smallholder farmers is highly preferred
- Strong team player with a collaborative approach, fostering synergy across diverse global teams and thriving in dynamic startup environments
- Demonstrated ability to deliver through partners - influencing and coordinating execution across third parties rather than directly managing a large labour force
- Strong English communication skills and fluency in Bahasa Indonesia are essential; familiarity with Manado Malay or other local Sulawesi languages is an advantage.
