Job Description

Project Manager – MEP (Data Center)

Position Summary

The Project Manager – MEP is responsible for the end-to-end management and delivery of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) aspects of data center construction projects. This role oversees planning, execution, cost control, stakeholder coordination, and successful project completion, ensuring mission-critical systems meet the highest standards of reliability, redundancy, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead overall MEP project delivery from design coordination through construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies aligned with client and contract requirements.
  • Manage full project lifecycle including procurement, construction, and close-out phases.

Design & Technical Management

  • Review and coordinate MEP designs to ensure constructability, efficiency, and compliance with data center standards.
  • Ensure alignment with key industry standards such as:
  • Uptime Institute Tier requirements
  • TIA-942
  • ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC codes
  • Provide technical leadership in critical systems including:
  • HVAC cooling systems (chillers, CRAH/CRAC)
  • Power infrastructure (UPS, generators, transformers)
  • Fire protection systems
  • BMS / EPMS systems

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Manage project budgets, cost controls, forecasts, and financial reporting.
  • Administer contracts, including variation orders, claims, and change management.
  • Monitor procurement activities and ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Drive value engineering initiatives to optimize cost and performance.

Schedule & Planning

  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules in collaboration with planning teams.
  • Track progress and implement corrective actions to mitigate delays.
  • Ensure alignment of MEP works with overall project master program.

Stakeholder & Client Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and key stakeholders on MEP matters.
  • Lead project meetings, progress reviews, and reporting.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and ensure satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.

Contractor & Team Management

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary MEP teams, including Construction Managers, Engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate subcontractor performance and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to quality standards and project specifications.
  • Oversee inspections, testing, and commissioning procedures.
  • Ensure proper documentation, QA/QC compliance, and close-out of punch lists.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Champion a strong safety culture across all MEP activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company and site HSE requirements.
  • Monitor safety performance and address any risks or issues proactively.

Testing & Commissioning

  • Oversee all MEP testing and commissioning activities, including integrated systems testing (IST).
  • Ensure systems meet operational requirements and reliability standards.
  • Manage final handover, documentation, and client acceptance processes.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

Ideal Experience

  • Minimum 18 years of experience in MEP project management.
  • Extensive experience with main contractors delivering large-scale projects.
  • Proven track record in data center or mission-critical facilities delivery is essential.
  • Experience in delivering Tier III / Tier IV data centers is highly desirable.
