Purpose of the Role
We are seeking a qualified Project Accountant to ensure that costs are accurately tracked, budgets are rigorously controlled, and financial data is always aligned with the reality on the ground. This role exists at the intersection of finance and project operations, providing the financial visibility that project teams need to make confident, informed decisions throughout the full project lifecycle.
This role is the operational core of the finance function — responsible for maintaining the day-to-day accounting cycle and ensuring that financial data is always reliable, compliant, and ready to support informed business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Set up and maintain project cost codes, cost centers, and budget structures in the accounting system to ensure accurate financial tracking per project.
2. Track project expenditures against approved budgets on an ongoing basis, identify variances, and escalate cost overruns to the Project Manager and Finance Manager in a timely manner.
3. Prepare and issue client invoices based on project milestones, completion percentages, or contractual billing schedules, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
4. Review and process subcontractor, supplier, and vendor invoices related to active projects, verifying alignment with purchase orders, contracts, and delivery records.
5. Prepare project-level cash flow forecasts and payment schedules, supporting the finance team in managing liquidity across concurrent projects.
6. Maintain accurate records of project contracts, purchase orders, and change orders, ensuring all financial commitments are properly documented and reflected in the accounting system.
7. Prepare and present regular project financial reports including cost-to-complete analysis, earned value summaries, and profitability statements for management and client review.
8. Apply appropriate revenue recognition methods in accordance with contract terms and applicable accounting standards (IFRS 15), ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting.
9. Lead the financial close-out of completed projects, including final reconciliations, accrual reversals, retention releases, and preparation of project profitability summaries.
10. Maintain audit-ready project files and financial documentation, and support internal and external audit processes with accurate, organized supporting schedules.
