The Private Label Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and expanding the company's private label product portfolio. The role oversees end-to-end product lifecycle from market research, sourcing, product development, pricing, quality assurance, to launch and performance optimization to drive margin growth, differentiation, and customer loyalty.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Development
- Identify product opportunities based on category trends, consumer insights, and competitor benchmarking
- Define product specifications, positioning, packaging, and value proposition
- Lead product development timeline from ideation to commercialization
Vendor & Sourcing Management
- Source and evaluate suppliers and manufacturers to ensure cost efficiency and production capability
- Negotiate pricing, MOQ, lead time, and contractual terms
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and performance scorecards
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure products meet required standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate product testing, quality checks, and packaging compliance
- Manage issue resolution for product defects, recalls, or quality deviations
Pricing & Profitability
- Develop pricing models to achieve desired margin contribution and category competitiveness
- Monitor COGS, logistics impact, and cost optimization opportunities
Go-to-Market & Launch Execution
- Collaborate with Marketing, Merchandising, and Operations for launch plans
- Ensure SKU readiness across supply chain, inventory, and e-commerce listing
- Support branding, storytelling, and promotional initiatives
Performance Management
- Track sales performance, customer feedback, return rates, and profitability
- Recommend product improvements, extensions, or discontinuation
- Prepare regular reporting to management on portfolio growth
Requirements
- 8+ years experience in category management, or sourcing, with minimum 3-5 years experiences in private label & product development
- Strong understanding of retail, FMCG, or e-grocery product categories
- Excellent negotiation, vendor management, and project management skills
- Data-driven mindset with ability to analyze product and financial performance
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance (especially food & household categories)
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
