About the role:

Would you like to contribute your own ideas on how to smartly deploy and manage large scale distributed Database-as-a-Service offerings for the public and private clouds Oracle's Database development group designs and develops the Database-as-a-Service platform that drives Oracle's Database, Engineered Systems, Oracle Public & Private Clouds, Oracle PaaS, and SaaS offerings. This team is a provider of public cloud database and infrastructure management software and helps companies manage platform resources to deliver service, quality, and availability, as well as workloads in private and hybrid cloud environments.

The Database Cloud Platform team is responsible for designing, developing and delivering the Oracle Database product on Public Cloud Platforms. These range from initial provisioning of customer's database and compute environment to complete life-cycle management of the customer's database instance on the Oracle Public Cloud. The Database on Public Cloud product is growing rapidly and the product features are designed to manage customer environments at a massive scale. The same architecture is deployed and managed for private clouds for our customers. This is a global team with locations in US, Mexico Development Center, and Oracle's India Development Centre (IDC) Bangalore.

As part of the Database Cloud Services (BaseDB / BaseDB CC), we are continuously enhancing our cloud platform to deliver scalable, secure, and highly available database services. This requires an experienced engineer with strong expertise in cloud control plane development, Oracle Database technologies, and Java-based distributed systems.

This role is essential to design, build, and operate next-generation cloud services, improve service reliability and automation, and accelerate the delivery of new capabilities for our Database Cloud customers.

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated software engineer to build and enhance cloud platform services for Oracle Database Cloud offerings. The ideal candidate will have strong experience developing cloud control plane services, deep Oracle Database expertise, and excellent software engineering skills in Java. This role requires a technical leader who can design scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-native services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop cloud control plane services for database cloud offerings.
• Build scalable, highly available, and secure cloud-native applications.
• Design and implement APIs, service orchestration, provisioning, lifecycle management, and monitoring capabilities.
• Leverage deep Oracle Database knowledge to build robust database cloud services.
• Drive technical architecture, code quality, performance optimization, and operational excellence.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on complex projects.

Required qualifications:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with experience in technical leadership or lead engineer roles.
• Strong experience building cloud control plane services.
• Deep understanding of Oracle Database architecture, administration, and database technologies.
• Strong programming expertise in Java, including building scalable distributed systems and microservices.
• Experience with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, REST APIs, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, scalability, security, and reliability engineering.
• Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and system design skills.

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field from a reputed institution with an excellent academic record.
• Experience developing large-scale cloud platforms or database cloud services.
• Familiarity with observability, automation, and DevOps best practices.
