Job Description

About AFTECH

The Indonesia Fintech Association (Asosiasi Fintech Indonesia, AFTECH) is officially appointed by the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, OJK) as the Association of Digital Financial Innovation Organizers (Penyelenggara Inovasi Keuangan Digital) under POJK No. 13/2018. We are the umbrella organization for Indonesia's fintech industry, with more than 200 members across fintech companies, financial institutions, and knowledge and technology partners.

Our members span roughly 25 business models, from payment systems, payment infrastructure, and peer-to-peer lending to digital financial assets and crypto, innovative credit scoring, insurtech and insurance brokerage, wealthtech and capital markets, earned wage access, buy-now-pay-later, digital gold, digital identity, property tokenization, tax application services, and financial product aggregators. AFTECH is not a regulator and issues no licenses; we bridge industry and policymakers, working closely with OJK, Bank Indonesia, relevant ministries, and legislators to shape a regulatory environment that supports responsible innovation, consumer protection, and financial inclusion. About the role

The Policy Team sits at the heart of AFTECH's mission: translating regulatory developments into practical guidance for members, representing the industry's collective voice to policymakers, and producing the research and analysis that shape the future of digital finance in Indonesia.

As a Policy Intern, you will be a genuine contributor, not an observer. This role is designed for intellectually curious, well-organized, and highly motivated early-career professionals eager to understand how financial regulation is developed, debated, and implemented while building strong research, writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Interns work across the team's full portfolio rather than a single workstream, ensuring broad exposure where no two weeks are the same.

You will work closely with the Policy Director, Deputy Policy Director, senior policy staff, and policy associates, with visibility to senior leadership, in a team that combines deep industry expertise with strong academic foundations. From day one, you will take on meaningful responsibilities, supported by mentorship and regular feedback. Full job description: https://asosiasifintech.org/JDPolicyInternJuly2026

What you will do

(1)   Policy research and regulatory analysis

•   Monitor regulatory and legislative developments across the Indonesian financial sector, including new and draft OJK and Bank Indonesia regulations and policy signals from ministries, and map how they affect members across business models.

•   Analyze the substance and likely impact of these developments on the sector and specific business models, distilling complex regulatory language into clear, structured summaries for internal and member use.

•   Conduct desk research on regulatory frameworks, comparative approaches in other jurisdictions, and cross-cutting themes such as consumer protection, data governance, AML, digital identity, and open finance.

•   Build and maintain internal trackers, matrices, and reference materials for a fast-moving environment.

(2)   Drafting policy documents and deliverables

•   Support drafting of position papers, policy briefs, formal responses to public consultations, and input on draft regulations.

•   Contribute to technical guidelines (Panduan Teknis) and roadmaps that help members implement regulatory requirements.

•   Prepare engagement materials, including terms of reference, agendas, briefing notes, talking points, and minutes of meeting.

•   Help produce internal memos and analytical notes, and contribute to formal correspondence to regulators, members, and partners in appropriate formal Bahasa Indonesia and, where needed, English.

(3)   Stakeholder and member engagement

•   Support engagement and liaison with government institutions, regulators, and industry associations, including Bank Indonesia, OJK, and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), by preparing materials, documenting discussions, and tracking follow-ups.

•   Assist in coordinating and servicing member departments and working groups, helping gather input, synthesize views, and represent the collective industry perspective.

•   Help maintain responsive member relationships by supporting the flow of regulatory information and answering routine queries under supervision.

(4)   Events, forums, and programs

•   Support the planning and execution of focus group discussions, roundtables, workshops, and AFTECH's national forums and summits.

•   Prepare concept notes, run-downs, speaker briefs, moderator cue cards, and decks, provide on-site support, and produce post-event documentation.

(5)   Research, data, and publications

•   Contribute to member surveys, flagship publications, and thematic reports.

•   Support data collection, cleaning, structuring, and analysis, and help build dashboards and trackers on fintech trends.

•   Translate findings into clear narratives, tables, and visualizations, and assist with production and QA: proofreading, fact-checking, consistency checks, and coordination with designers.

Examples of our work

Recent policy team projects and publications include a white paper on expanding credit access through responsible collaboration between banks and P2P lending platforms; the AFTECH Annual Member Survey 2026, a flagship survey of 140-plus members on industry trends, regulatory priorities, and outlook; a classification framework for regulating digital financial assets; an overview of insurtech implementation in Indonesia; an integrative analysis of technology infrastructure disparity in the sector; and a study on governing aggregator business models that informed Indonesia's later aggregator framework. As a Policy Intern, you would contribute directly to work of this kind.

What you will gain

•   A working understanding of Indonesia's fintech regulatory landscape few early-career professionals get to build, spanning payments, lending, digital assets, and the broader innovation framework.

•   Sharper research, analytical, and writing skills on real deliverables read by members, regulators, and the public.

•   Insight into how policy is made in practice, how industry positions form, and how evidence shapes decisions.

•   Regular mentorship, feedback, and stretch opportunities, plus a professional network across the industry, regulators, and the wider policy community.

•   Fair remuneration, as this is a paid internship.

Where this experience leads

The internship is a launchpad. Former interns and team members have moved into government institutions and regulators (OJK, Bank Indonesia, and relevant ministries); financial institutions and fintech companies, from established players to fast-growing startups; consulting, research, and think tanks; and graduate study in law, public policy, and economics at leading universities in Indonesia and abroad.

You need not meet every point; apply if you meet the core requirements and are excited by the work.

Credentials

•   Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree at a leading university, ideally in Law, Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Business, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field; recent graduates and strong candidates from other disciplines are welcome.

•   Some prior exposure to policy research, regulatory or legal analysis, economics, consulting, or the technology or financial sectors, through coursework, internships, organizations, competitions, or independent work.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

•   Strong policy research and analytical skills, able to work through dense material, identify what matters, and reach clear, well-supported conclusions.

•   Solid grounding in, or ability to quickly learn, regulatory and compliance concepts relevant to financial services and technology.

•   Excellent written and verbal communication, translating technical and legal language into clear writing for different audiences.

•   Strong presentation skills and comfort preparing materials for senior stakeholders.

•   Full professional proficiency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, including formal written Bahasa Indonesia.

•   Comfort with standard productivity tools and presenting data clearly.

Behaviors and mindsets

•   Highly organized and detail-oriented, managing multiple deadlines without letting quality slip, with a strong instinct for accuracy and low tolerance for unverified claims.

•   A resourceful self-starter who takes ownership and learns new topics and tools proactively.

•   Intellectually curious about where financial regulation and technology intersect.

•   A collaborative team player comfortable engaging with people from peers to senior officials.

Preferred qualifications

•   Demonstrated interest in fintech, digital finance, or financial regulation.

•   Familiarity with the Indonesian financial regulatory landscape, including OJK, Bank Indonesia, and key fintech frameworks.

•   Experience with structured research, survey work, or data analysis, and turning data into visualizations and narratives.

•   Experience in structured argument and communication, for example debate, moot court, model organizations, or research publications.

•   Strong document production skills.

Nuts and bolts

•   Location: on-site at the AFTECH office in Jakarta, with reasonable adjustments for candidates still studying.

•   Duration: contract internship, minimum three months, extendable; strong performance may open further opportunities.

•   Compensation: paid, with mentorship, real responsibility, and senior stakeholder exposure.

•   Start date: target July 2026, as soon as possible; timing agreed with the candidate.
