Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect - Factory Automation to lead integrated MES, PLC, SCADA, and shopfloor automation solutions. The candidate must possess strong controls-architecture expertise and proven experience connecting production systems with machines, lines, utilities, historians, and enterprise applications.
MES or shopfloor implementation experience is mandatory. Pre-sales and solutioning experience is also mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
• Define Level 03 architecture spanning PLC, HMI, SCADA, edge, historian, and MES layers.
• Design secure, resilient interfaces for production commands, machine states, alarms, recipes, quality parameters, and confirmations.
• Architect MES-to-machine connectivity using OPC UA, industrial protocols, APIs, MQTT, and event-driven patterns.
• Establish controls standards, tag and namespace strategy, network segmentation, redundancy, and disaster-recovery design.
• Lead site surveys, detailed design, development oversight, FAT, SAT, commissioning, ramp-up, and hypercare.
• Coordinate OEMs, automation vendors, MES teams, OT cybersecurity, plant engineering, and operations stakeholders.
• Collaborate with operations, quality, engineering, supply chain, IT, OT, vendors, and business stakeholders.
• Mentor delivery teams and enforce architecture governance, documentation, coding/configuration standards, and DevOps best practices.
Technical Skills
Mandatory
• PLC and SCADA solution architecture
• Hands-on MES-to-machine and shopfloor implementation
• OPC UA and industrial communication concepts
• Equipment states, alarms, recipes, traceability, quality collection, and production confirmation
• FAT, SAT, commissioning, cutover, and production stabilization
• Solution architecture, integration design, security, performance, and technical governance
• Pre-sales, RFP/RFI response, estimation, solutioning, workshops, and customer presentations
Preferred
• OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs, messaging, and event-driven integration
• Cloud platforms, containers, DevOps, cybersecurity, analytics, and multi-site rollouts
• ISA-88 / ISA-95 and relevant manufacturing-domain standards
Manufacturing Domain Knowledge
Strong understanding of:
• Production execution and work-order management
• Track and trace, genealogy, quality, and nonconformance management
• Production-scheduling integration and material/inventory tracking
• Machine, equipment, PLC, SCADA, historian, and shopfloor integration
• Plant deployment, cutover, ramp-up, hypercare, and continuous improvement
Implementation Experience – Mandatory
• Proven ownership of at least one full MES, shopfloor, automation, historian, or asset-management implementation lifecycle—from discovery and architecture through build/configuration, integration, testing, deployment, and hypercare.
• Ability to lead customer and plant teams during workshops, design reviews, testing, cutover, production stabilization, and rollout.
Pre-Sales & Solutioning – Mandatory
• Support RFP/RFI responses, effort estimation, technical solutioning, architecture definition, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and commercial inputs.
• Create solution blueprints, integration architectures, sizing models, bills of material, implementation roadmaps, and delivery plans.
• Lead customer workshops, technical presentations, architecture reviews, demonstrations, and Proof-of-Concept initiatives.
Leadership & Collaboration
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work across business, IT, OT, engineering, quality, operations, vendors, and globally distributed teams.
