ABOUT OUCRU INDONESIA
The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Indonesia (OUCRU ID; formerly EOCRU) operates in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia. OUCRU ID is part of the Major International Programme Vietnam sponsored by the Wellcome and governed by the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, United Kingdom. OUCRU in Indonesia and Vietnam, along with their many local and international partners, conduct biomedical, clinical, and epidemiological research on infections impacting the health of people living in Southeast Asia and beyond.
JOB SUMMARY
The Public and Community Engagement (PCE) Officer supports the implementation of OUCRU Indonesia's Public and Community Engagement strategy, with a primary focus on community participation, youth engagement, stakeholder engagement, and public engagement activities.
Working closely with the PCE Manager, other PCE officers, researchers, communities, and external stakeholders, the role contributes to strengthening dialogue between researchers and society to support understanding of health research and meaningful participation.
The role contributes to the implementation of the PCE Theory of Change (ToC), supporting engagement initiatives aligned with OUCRU's strategic priorities.
PCE Officers work collaboratively across all areas of the PCE projects. While this role has designated areas of focus, the PCE officer is expected to contribute flexibly to engagement activities, projects coordination, administration, and team priorities as needed.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Participation in Research
- Coordinate and implement community dialogue platforms, including Community Advisory Groups and the OUCRU Indonesia Community Forum for Health Research (FORUM), under the direction of the PCE Manager.
- Take primary responsibility for day-to-day implementation of community engagement activities for ongoing and upcoming studies.
Youth Participation in Research
- Coordinate and implement youth engagement initiatives and activities under the direction of the PCE Manager.
- Serve as a focal point for operational coordination with youth groups and youth networks.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of youth-focused engagement approaches and participatory activities.
Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate stakeholder dialogues and partnership activities.
- Maintain communication and engagement with communities, civil society organisations, researchers, and professional networks.
- Contribute to multi-stakeholder initiatives and engagement activities that strengthen collaboration between research and society.
Communication and Public Engagement
- Coordinate implementation of public engagement initiatives such as laboratory tours, educational sessions, community visits, and dialogue activities.
- Contribute to the development of engagement and communication materials, including presentations, posters, and public-facing resources.
- Support dissemination of research through engagement and public communication activities.
Shared Programme Responsibilities
- Contribute to Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) activities, including documentation of reflections, feedback, and lessons learned.
- Support researcher-led engagement activities and Seed Awards initiatives as needed.
- Contribute to organisation of capacity-building activities.
- Work collaboratively with other PCE officers in implementing cross-cutting engagement activities.
Programme Coordination and Administration
- Take responsibility for logistical and operational arrangements for meetings, workshops, engagement activities, and events.
- Maintain stakeholder databases, attendance records, activity documentation, meeting notes, and filing systems.
- Coordinate scheduling, travel requests, cash advances, reimbursements, procurement, and other administrative follow-up related to PCE activities.
- Contribute to reporting, documentation, and activity tracking processes.
General Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with OUCRU researchers and non-researchers teams and external partners.
- Ensure engagement activities are conducted respectfully, ethically, and inclusively.
- Undertake other tasks as reasonably required by the PCE Manager to support the objectives of the PCE programme.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Global Health, Development Studies, Communication, Community Development, Social Sciences, or Education, with demonstrated relevant professional experience. A postgraduate qualification is desirable.
- English level: Intermediate – Advance
- Work experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
- Strong experience engaging with communities and youth.
- Proven experience coordinating and facilitating stakeholder meetings and engagement activities involving community groups, researchers, government institutions, schools/universities, civil society organisations, or professional networks.
- Good understanding of community engagement principles and public health, particularly in community-based programmes.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and organisational skills, with experience supporting meetings, trainings, workshops, or stakeholder engagement activities.
- Strong administrative and coordination skills, with attention to detail and effective task management.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams and networks.

The selected candidate will initially receive a 12 months contract with the possibility to
receive a contract extension. The remuneration package includes annual leave, sick leave,
