About the role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Operations & Harvesting Manager to lead the planning, harvesting, processing, and production of natural plant biomass for composting and biochar manufacturing. In this role, you will oversee field operations, supervise teams, ensure strict compliance with safety and environmental standards, and optimize production efficiency to maintain high-quality output.
Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and manage natural plant harvesting operations.
- Identify and evaluate suitable biomass sources for composting and biochar production.
- Supervise field workers, equipment operators, and production staff to ensure optimal performance.
- Coordinate harvesting schedules, logistics, transportation, and the secure storage of biomass.
- Oversee composting production by continuously monitoring moisture, temperature, aeration, and quality control.
- Manage feedstock preparation and processing tailored for biochar production.
- Ensure full compliance with local environmental regulations, workplace health and safety standards, and company policies.
- Develop, implement, and update Standard Operating Procedures for harvesting and composting processes.
- Monitor equipment maintenance schedules and coordinate timely servicing and repairs.
- Maintain accurate harvesting and production records, inventory tracking, and operational reports.
- Identify areas for process improvement to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and lower overall operational costs.
- Work closely with agronomists, engineers, the production team, and external suppliers to support business objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Science, Forestry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in agricultural operations, biomass harvesting, composting, and waste management.
- Deep understanding of biomass feedstocks, composting techniques, and related processing technologies.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale field operations and supervising diverse teams.
- Familiarity with agricultural machinery utilized in harvesting and biomass processing.
- Strong knowledge of environmental compliance, regulations, and workplace safety protocols.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data and prepare comprehensive technical reports.
- Hands-on experience or solid familiarity with pyrolysis systems.
- Knowledge of or background in the regenerative agriculture field.
- Proven experience in project management.
- Strong capabilities in budget planning and cost control.
- A strong problem-solving mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Professional proficiency and good communication skills in both English and French (written and spoken).
