1-2 years of experience in a role focused on WAN connectivity, such as a Transport Engineer, Carrier Management Engineer, or senior NOC Engineer.
Direct experience working with and managing relationships with ISPs and telecommunication carriers.
Strong, practical knowledge of WAN transport technologies, including Metro Ethernet, dedicated internet access, broadband (FTTH/DOCSIS), and cellular (4G/LTE/5G).
Proficient in troubleshooting end-to-end network connectivity across multi-vendor and multi-carrier environments.
Solid understanding of routing protocols (BGP is essential) and how they are used for internet peering and transit.
Experience with network performance monitoring tools (e.g., ThousandEyes, Kentik, PRTG).
Industry certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, or carrier-specific certifications.
Understanding of how SD-WAN technology interacts with and depends on the underlying network transport.
Familiarity with carrier ordering and provisioning portals.
Act as the primary technical liaison with telecommunication carriers and Internet Service Providers. Manage circuit provisioning, turn-up, and testing.
Lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex connectivity issues related to the transport layer, including last-mile problems, peering issues, and core network outages.
Continuously monitor the quality of all network links, tracking key metrics like latency, jitter, and packet loss. Ensure carrier performance adheres to SLAs and drive resolution for any deviations.
Collaborate with pre-sales and the Device Service Engineer to evaluate and recommend the optimal connectivity solutions (e.g., dedicated fiber, broadband, 4G/5G) for new customer deployments.
Maintain a detailed inventory of all network circuits, including carrier information, contract details, and technical specifications.
Manage technical escalations with carriers during service disruptions and coordinate incident response efforts to ensure rapid service restoration.
