About the Role

We are presently seeking a Materials Engineer to join our MedTech and Life Science operations in Batam. In this role, you will serve as the technical subject matter expert and support material selection, qualification, failure analysis, process improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure product performance, manufacturability, quality, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for materials used in manufacturing processes and products.
  • Evaluate, qualify, and implement new materials, alternative materials, and material changes to support manufacturing and business requirements.
  • Lead material-related investigations and failure analysis activities to identify root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Design and conduct material testing, characterization, validation, and reliability studies to assess material performance and suitability.
  • Develop and maintain material specifications, qualification plans, technical standards, and related engineering documentation.
  • Evaluate material compatibility with manufacturing processes, product requirements, and reliability expectations.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Procurement on material-related projects and initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance product reliability, manufacturing efficiency, process capability, yield performance, and cost effectiveness through material optimization.
  • Comply with quality, environmental, health, and safety management system requirements within your area of responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • Fresh graduates with strong academic achievements, internship experience, university research projects related to materials engineering are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior work experience in materials engineering, materials characterization, product reliability, failure analysis, manufacturing engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of material properties, material selection, qualification methodologies, and reliability principles and knowledge of materials characterization and testing methods.
  • Familiar with structured problem-solving methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, DOE, and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt training or exposure to continuous improvement methodologies is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in English communication, both written and spoken.
