Material Value Proposition Engineer (Mechanical VAVE & Component Qualification)

Location: Batam, Indonesia (under PT PCI Elektronik Internasional)

Responsibilities

• Drive VAVE & Cost Savings: Identify, plan, and execute Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives across mechanical designs, materials, and manufacturing processes to achieve business cost reduction goals.
• Part Qualification & Technical Gatekeeping: Apply mechanical engineering principles to evaluate, test, and qualify customized parts, alternative materials, and mechanical assemblies for project suitability.
• Component Filtering & Selection: Serve as the primary technical interface between suppliers and internal engineering—analyzing engineering drawings, material specifications, and physical sample builds to narrow down component options to the most viable choices.
• Cross-Functional & Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Sourcing, Commodity Management, and external suppliers on prototype builds, testing, qualification, and implementation of cost-saving solutions.
• Supplier Auditing & Site Visits: Conduct on-site technical audits and capability assessments of subcontracted vendors and precision machine shops to ensure custom tooling and parts meet strict tolerance and cost requirements.
• Teardown & Optimization: Conduct hands-on teardown analysis, benchmarking, and should-cost modeling on mechanical assemblies to identify design simplifications or substitute parts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Tooling Design, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Tooling Design, Product/Project Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience in Mechanical Manufacturing, Tooling, Precision Engineering, Custom Fabrication, or Heavy Industrial Equipment.
• Solid understanding of plastics injection molding, metal stamping, and precision machining (CNC/turning), including material properties and manufacturing processes.
• Proficient in reading GD&T engineering drawings, checking mechanical tolerances, evaluating component specifications, and understanding material pricing/costing factors.
• Based in or accessible to Batam, with willingness to conduct frequent local supplier site visits.
• Candidates with strong relevant experience may be considered for a Senior position.
