Job Description

Key Responsibilities 1. Business Strategy & Company Building
  • Develop and execute the company's overall business strategy in alignment with shareholders objectives.
  • Lead the establishment and development of the business from start-up / early-stage operations into a sustainable and profitable company.
  • Define short-term, medium-term, and long-term business objectives.
  • Identify new business opportunities, markets, products, customers, and potential strategic partnerships.
  • Develop strategies to achieve sustainable revenue growth and profitability.
  • Evaluate market trends, competitor activities, customer needs, and industry developments to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Translate business strategy into clear action plans, priorities, budgets, and measurable KPIs.

2. End-to-End Operations Management
  • Oversee the company's end-to-end operations, ensuring effective coordination between production, procurement, supply chain, sales, finance, HR, quality, and other functions.
  • Establish efficient operational processes, SOPs, systems, and performance standards.
  • Ensure operational activities are aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, quality standards, and cost targets.
  • Monitor operational efficiency, productivity, production capacity, inventory, delivery performance, and overall cost structure.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Build a strong operational culture focused on quality, productivity, cost efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

3. Plywood / Manufacturing Operations
  • Oversee manufacturing activities and ensure production capacity is aligned with market demand.
  • Ensure effective utilization of raw materials, machinery, manpower, and production facilities.
  • Monitor production planning, yield, wastage, quality, downtime, and production costs.
  • Work closely with the production and technical teams to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Ensure proper quality control throughout the production process.
  • Develop strategies to reduce production waste, improve yield, and optimize manufacturing costs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Note: Direct plywood experience is preferred, but the company is open to candidates from other industries with strong manufacturing or operational exposure.

4. Financial & P&L Management
  • Take full responsibility for the company's P&L and overall financial performance.
  • Develop annual budgets, business plans, and financial projections.
  • Monitor revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, cash flow, working capital, and profitability.
  • Make commercially sound decisions regarding pricing, investment, cost structure, and resource allocation.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising product quality or business growth.
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure effective financial controls and reporting.

5. Sales & Business Development
  • Develop and execute sales and business development strategies to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
  • Build relationships with key customers, distributors, contractors, manufacturers, developers, and other relevant business partners.
  • Identify new markets and customer segments.
  • Develop appropriate pricing and commercial strategies.
  • Monitor sales performance and ensure alignment between sales commitments and operational capabilities.
  • Personally engage with key customers and strategic accounts when required.

6. Procurement & Supply Chain
  • Oversee procurement and supply chain strategies to ensure availability of raw materials and operational requirements.
  • Develop reliable supplier networks and strategic supplier relationships.
  • Ensure competitive purchasing costs and appropriate supplier quality.
  • Monitor inventory levels, material availability, logistics costs, and delivery performance.
  • Develop contingency plans for critical raw materials and supply disruptions.

7. Organization Building & Leadership
  • Build the organizational structure required to support the company's growth.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain key management and operational talent.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, reporting lines, and performance expectations.
  • Develop a performance-driven culture with strong accountability.
  • Coach and develop managers to become independent decision-makers.
  • Ensure the organization has the right people, capabilities, and systems to support future expansion.

8. Decision Making & Problem Solving
  • Make timely and commercially sound decisions based on business data, operational realities, market conditions, and risk assessment.
  • Take ownership of complex business and operational issues.
  • Balance short-term business needs with long-term strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make decisions even when information is incomplete or circumstances are changing.
  • Establish a clear decision-making framework and accountability throughout the organization.

9. Stakeholder & Shareholder Management
  • Provide regular business updates and strategic recommendations to shareholders/Board of Directors.
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, business partners, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate business performance, challenges, risks, and opportunities clearly and transparently.
  • Ensure management decisions remain aligned with shareholder expectations and company objectively.

Candidate Requirements Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Finance, or related fields.
  • Master's degree / MBA is preferred but not mandatory.

Experience
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience, with at least 5–8 years in a senior leadership / P&L management position such as:
    • Managing Director
    • General Manager
    • Business Unit Director
    • Operations Director
    • Plant Director
    • Country Manager
    • Business Director

  • Proven experience in building, developing, restructuring, or transforming a business.
  • Experience managing an organization with multiple functions such as Operations, Sales, Finance, HR, Procurement, and Supply Chain.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, building materials, wood products, furniture, FMCG, chemicals, automotive, or other operationally intensive industries is highly relevant.
  • Plywood / wood products experience is preferred but not mandatory.

2. Proven Build from Zero Capability

This is one of the most important requirements.

The candidate should have experience in:

  • Establishing a new business.
  • Building an organization from the ground up.
  • Setting up operational processes.
  • Recruiting the initial management team.
  • Developing SOPs and systems.
  • Establishing suppliers and customers.
  • Building revenue streams.
  • Turning an early-stage business into a functioning organization.

Candidates who have only maintained an established business without significant transformation or business-building experience may be less suitable.

3. Strong Operational Understanding

The candidate does not need to be a plywood technical expert, but must understand:

Raw Material → Procurement → Production → Quality → Inventory → Warehouse → Logistics → Sales → Customer → Finance/P&L

They should be capable of identifying where operational problems originate and how those problems affect profitability.

4. Strong P&L and Commercial Acumen

The candidate must understand:

  • Revenue.
  • Gross margin.
  • COGS.
  • OPEX.
  • EBITDA.
  • Working capital.
  • Cash flow.
  • Pricing.
  • Cost optimization.
  • Capital expenditure.
  • ROI.

5. Strategic & Hands-On Leadership

The ideal candidate should be both:

Strategic enough to define the direction

and

Hands-on enough to solve operational problems.

This is particularly important because the position is expected to build and develop the organization, rather than simply manage an already mature business.
