We're hiring a Lead Product Engineer to own the platform that wraps our AI agents: the customer portal, the live meeting experience, onboarding, billing, admin, and reporting. This is a hands-on, player-coach role: you will eventually lead engineers, but first and foremost you ship. Most of what users and paying customers touch outside the agent conversation itself is yours — and much of it is driven directly by commercial needs, where a small, well-built feature can unblock a deal the same week it's requested.
While our Agent Core team obsesses over how the AI behaves, you obsess over everything around it: can a customer build, deploy, share, monitor and bill for their agents without friction The platform is where Kulu stops being a clever demo and becomes a product a business runs on.
About Kulu
Kulu is a high-performance, high-bandwidth communication team. We run live daily standups, Slack constantly, and jump into huddles rather than letting long async threads develop. Product, engineering and commercial conversations overlap heavily. This suits people who enjoy working closely with highly engaged colleagues, talking through hard problems in real time, sharing unfinished work, and moving quickly as new information emerges. It's probably not the right environment if your ideal style is to receive a well-defined problem, disappear for the day, and communicate primarily through async updates. There will be focused individual work — but we optimize for the speed and quality of the team as a whole.
We are deliberately moving toward a more in-person culture in Bali, and this role will help build a high-performance office culture where exceptional engineers want to work.
You will be the technical owner of the Kulu platform — responsible for turning product and commercial priorities into shipped, polished features, fast.
What success looks like
The North Star: does the platform ship what the business needs, fast, at a quality that builds customer trust Success in the first months looks like: you own the portal and meeting frontend confidently; feature requests move from ask to production in days or a small number of weeks; deal-blocking requests stop needing founder involvement to land safely; recurring platform bugs get fixed at the root; and the CEO steps out of day-to-day platform delivery entirely because you've made him unnecessary there.
We care far more about evidence you can do these things than titles. We're particularly interested in founding engineers, senior product engineers from small high-performing teams, and technical founders.
Nice to have (optional): Python; experience with real-time media frontends (e.g., LiveKit, WebRTC); billing and subscription systems (e.g., Stripe); analytics and feature flags (e.g., PostHog); experience building on or around AI products; relational databases (PostgreSQL).
What we are not looking for
This is unlikely to be right if you need a finished spec before you can start, prefer deep work on one layer of the stack only, see UX polish as a designer's job, are uncomfortable with priorities shifting when a customer conversation changes them, want a highly asynchronous low-communication environment, or measure your impact in story points rather than shipped product.
Our Operating Principles:
We intentionally call this role Lead Product Engineer rather than Head of Product Engineering - we want someone who still identifies as a builder. For an exceptional person, there is a natural path toward heading the Platform team at increasing scale as Kulu grows.
